Found this in a box of old parts - not sure what it is, but it's old and worn. It has lining on the outside, and it's the same basic size as a brake shoe. Thanks for any info.

Aftermarket accessory brake band with lining. It will need some work where the cam rides on the shoe to activate though.

JUNK! Yes it is an after-market lined brake shoe. Lined brakes are a GOOD thing, provided the shoe assembly is strong enough to do the job reliably. Those type, even before they break, are too flimsy to provide enough pressure between the lining and the drum.
I think they could be redesigned, reworked and reinforced. I am considering that for a pair I have because I am too broke to buy the nice new ones. Beyond that, I would never use them. The cast iron ones made today are great provided they are properly adjusted.
Besides, that one is broken.
Don't break the brake when you brake or you'll break.

Thanks all, that's what I thought. Don't recall them being in the car, but the last time it was on the road was over 30 years ago. Agreed, this one is pretty bad; it won't be going back in. The car has a RAJO head, and I'll need better brakes than this.

I just put a pair of those on my '13 yesterday! Ya, guys, I know they aren't original, but I like them.

Larry, I don't like them. They are prone to bending at the cam end as pressure is applied. The cam will drive one side out towards the drum and load that end nicely. However, the other side is driven away from the drum, and because they are not rigid like a cast shoe, they bend inwards, you loose braking power and run the risk of the lining dragging. This happened on one of my Hayes wire wheel brake drums, with nasty consequences for the drum.

There are a number of aftermarket accessory brake shoes. I like the ones that are reinforced on both sides. I have used both styles, and haven't had any problems with either. Remember too they are for parking not stopping!
