My fan belt is running about 1/8" forward of the crank pulley and up against the forward lip of the fan pulley when i hand crank it. The engine is not running yet. still working on it. Should the belt be in the middle of the upper pulley? thanks. Ken

I had to adjust my fan pulley by adding & subtracting thin washers to the fan pulley mounting. It was worth the (small) effort as it now rides perfectly centered on both the crank pulley and the fan pulley. Easy to do.

I used to use the standard wide belt supplied by the vendors. We were out touring and I broke an original style belt. I needed to do something as I did not have a spare belt with me. I went to the local parts store in the town we happened to be in and bought one of those skinny belts used on modern cars. I got the right length and put in on. It worked well. I have since changed to this type of belt and all of our T's with no problems. I have not replaced them intentionally but only when the wide ones need to be replaced. My question is can anyone see a negative side of using this skinny belt? The first one I bought has been on the car for 5 seasons now and looks brand new.

You really need to check for square and plumb between the pulleys. Any misalignment causes a 'walk'. It should ride to the middle on both due to a crown on the fan pulley.

Like Bud, I had one a while back that was square and true on one of the other cars, yet the one side wanted to ride against the flange causing it to 'bell' A washer as a spacer on the axle shaft between the pulley and the arm took care of that and been fine ever since.

Sometimes the cording in a belt has a twist in it. The easiest way to eliminate this is to turn the belt around and 'see' if it wants to walk in the other direction. If it does, bad belt.

Like Tom, I somehow wound up with one of these small serpentine belts on the '19. Been on there a few years now because it just settles nice and stays put...runs a little towards the front of the pulley, yet runs true. It has a spare regular in a box, so guess that means the serpentine will last another 3-4 decades

Check your fan bracket. If it got bent, even a little, that would cause your problem. I've had to add a thin washer on two of my T's. The other two are ok.
