I went to see Gangster Squad last night. I didn't see any Model T's on the streets, but they did a great job of showing Los Angeles in 1949. There's a shot of Beverly Boulevard in front of Slapsy Maxie's that is absolutely wonderful. From the previews I was afraid that Sean Penn's Cohen would be an exercise in scenery chewing, but I have to say he and the rest of the cast did a great job. It's a very well-made shoot-em-up. I just hope all the cars they wrecked were fakes.

I would hope the cars would be fake, but that's not always the case.

In Tucker, they crashed a Studebaker with a fake Tucker front end on it. But I know in other movies, they really do wreck the cars. In the movie The Private Eyes, a rare Rolls-Royce is jumped into a pond at Biltmore Estate, and buried up to the windshield in mud.

Hollywood is not intelligent enough to make a fake anything anymore. So i stopped going to see movies.
