By Dennis Halpin on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 - 06:52 pm:In a word, yes. The bendix drive on the starter is installed AFTER the starter is bolted in place. You can't put the starter in, with the bendix drive on it.

My starter never worked right even when my grandfather was driving the truck in the 1940's and 1950's. I decided to not bother with it. The blank out plates were much easier and I like to use the crank anyway.
