I believe that someone mentioned a tach based on the magneto in the past. But that starts the whole "modern electronics are blasphemy in a T" conversation again.
Thinking otherwise, my 1999 GMC diesel Suburban uses the alternator to drive the ECM and the tach. If you change the belt pulley, the engine stops working well unless you compensate for a different pulse rate. On a T with a gear drive gen or alternator, something could probably be figured out.

13/39 is 33 RPM/MPH
Low is 2.75 times each ratio, above, or with 11/40 is 110 RPM/MPH.

Forget staving off Alzheimer's, I'm going have to pull over every time I want to figure out what RPM I'm turning. And then, once I'm sitting by the side of the road in neutral, my speed (0 mph) isn't going to tell me how fast my engine is idling....

By Tony Bowker on Friday, January 18, 2013 - 08:23 pm:When I was teaching my son-in-law to drive the speedster, he didn't like running in low with no indication (other than noise) when to move into high. The he found Buzz Pounds BuzzTach and he wanted one. So the speedster has a BuzzTach. Buzz made them for coils and distributors and any rear end ratio. You might find one at a swap meet. Buzz stopped making them when the supply of 270 degree meters dried up.
