Hello, Speedsters Fans!
I am forwarding to you information about the upcoming 2013 International Speedsters Reunion, which we will host here during June 19-22, at the Museum of American Speed, located on the Speedway Motors campus in Lincoln, Nebraska. Our physical address is 599 Oakcreek Drive, Lincoln, 68528.
The Registration Forms attachment will include the registration form for the overall reunion activities, an additional Hill Climb Racer's form for those of you who plan to compete in the hill climb, and a schedule of activities on each day of the reunion. We may yet have a few additions to the activities line-up over the next couple of months, and we'll let you know about those as we firm them up.
Based on questions from previous years' Speedsters reunions we've hosted, I'll add a few comments below about the Event Registration form:
-- Be sure to circle your preferred shirt size in the area to the right of your e-mail address. That shirt is included with your registration fee. If you'd like to pre-order an additional event shirt(s) at $10/shirt, there's a place for that in the "Event T-Shirt" block. Circle your size preference(s) there as well. We should also have a fairly good assortment of sizes available for purchase during the reunion if you'd prefer to do that here, but no guarantees on availability of every size by that time.
-- If you don't plan to race a car in the hill climb, your event cost is just the $90, and that covers all the activities currently planned. You can be a spectator at Friday's hill climb at no extra cost, and we'll provide lunch at the hill climb site for you, but you can't race.
-- If you do plan to compete in the hill climb, then you must fill out the Racer's Registration form in addition to your event registration form, and include the extra $25 with your Reunion entry fee. That $25 helps us pay for insurance, the lease for use of the hill climb site, porta-johns, etc. We will have at least one handicap accessible porta-john at the hill climb site all day. Bring your own chair and shade or sunscreen -- there's very little natural shade where we race. Tech/safety inspections are mandatory for any car being raced in the hill climb event. We'll do inspections at the museum on Thursday afternoon after the road trip, and on Friday morning beginning at 8:00 AM at the hill climb site. The checklist we will employ for these inspections is attached for your information. F.A.S.T. hill climb rules under which we will operate are found at www.hotforhotfours.com/rules.html ; classes for racing are described at www.hotforhotfours.com/classes.html . If you have an extra helmet or two you can bring to share with fellow racers, that would be appreciated. We at the museum will have two or three approved helmets on site in different sizes to share as well.
Regarding the road trip, we will have routing for both Model Ts and Model As that are planned to get everyone to each planned rest and refreshment stop at generally the same time. Our T routes will be planned for 30-35 mph averages, and A routes for 45-50 mph averages, so that stock-motored autos can comfortably "stay with the pack". There are no restrictions or limitations on type of car or engine to join in on the road trip.
We will have optional activities available for those who would prefer to do something else during some of the "enthusiast-oriented" activities.
Lodging information provided by each of our two recommended hotels is also attached. Both of these hotels will take very good care of you during your stay (although we do intend to keep you very busy and occupied during this reunion!) If you plan to travel here in a motor home or camper, you can overnight in the Speedway parking lot adjacent to the museum, but there are no services there -- and no wi-fi. We can also provide secure overnight parking on our campus for your car or trailer if you'd like; let us know ahead of time if possible.
We will not offer vendor tables this year, but if you have something rare or especially interesting you'd like to show (or demonstrate) to your fellow reunion participants, call us to discuss. If you have questions about anything, contact me via e-mail of phone (cell usually works best.)

How can we convince Rob to try the hill climb? It's only 10 miles from his house.
I think he is afraid to wear seat belts and a helmet!
Fun event, but the rules are a little biased towards Model A, it seems - only metal wheels are allowed,
Ok, I read some more, there is an exemption for standard Model T's that doesn't run faster than 50mph - guess Rob's K is faster than that.. Given all the period race participation from the few cars sold he has documented, it may be classed as a period race car and grandfathered in? ;)
Rob's K is not eligible because the hill climb is limited to 4 cylinder engines.
Seat belts!? Roll bars!? Helmets!? I would no more put seat belts in an open T speedster than I would a motorcycle! And, yes, my boat-tail does do more than 50mph.
I am in this hobby to preserve antique automobiles, including speed cars of the era. I want my cars to be truly representative of similar cars built during the '10s and '20s.
How many era correct type cars go to this?

The helmets and seat belts are for insurance purposes I believe.
Two years ago a gentleman used a leather helmet. I think it was left over from a football game in the 30's. At least that is what it looked like.
The rules state there have to be seat belts in the car. They do not say you have to use them. Some people keep them under the seat, but they are there.
I'll be there! Does a Model N get a "special" class?
Hopefully, I can make it to one out-of-Califunny meet this year. It will likely be a couple months yet before I can commit to one. If/when I do, I want to know it will be worth the trip (and expense).
Yeah, I know insurance and other entities sometimes make ridiculous demands and sometimes one must grin and bear it. A long-time very good friend of mine does have seat belts tucked away on his race car. He hates the idea as much as I do, however a couple meets he attends do require it. He even has been known to wear a helmet a few times.
How much of a helmet is required? I have several leather helmets from nearly new to nearly 80 years old and one or two that may be older. I wear them often along with my old vintage goggles. I also have an original First World War U S Army helmet.
I just like to look like I could have been pulled out of that photograph along with my car.

I haven't missed one yet, even tho I'll have to miss the last day, as a grandson is getting married the 22nd, I'm building my 14 yr old a speedster as we speak, and need a 2 person seat and tank, if anyone one knows of such. 20's frame, 26-7 rear end, old stock engine for now, found hood, fiberglass firewall and wood seat frame and base for body at the Ind. Covered Bridge tour and disks for covering the 30 x 3 1/2 wood wheels there also, one good 30x 3 1/2 rim w/new firestone tire mounted, having new wheels made, and I'll get more tires at Chickasha, still need 3 more good demontable 30 x 3 1/2 in rims. see all of you there. firstname.lastname@example.org
