Our 1918 Center Door originally came from Pennsylvania. The other day I found a 1918 Pennsylvania plate on Ebay, which I bought. The plans are to put the Pennsylvania plate on the front (where she came from) and a North Carolina 1918 plate on the back (where she resides now.)



My question is-if you look closely at the keystone in the plate, there is a number stamped into the plate. It looks like T1063. What is the purpose of this number-registration?



An interesting side note: my husband was given the 1918 North Carolina license plate by a friend about 40 years ago. He did not own a 1918 car at that time. 40+ years later we bought a 1918. Now that is doing it the hard way-get the plate first and then buy a car.

Apparently, in Pennsylvania, "... the maker's number (VIN number) was enscribed directly onto the embossed keystone, rather than onto a tab riveted to the plate. However, the riveted-on keystones were still occasionally used, in cases where the owner transferred the plate from one vehicle to another during the registration year."

Now, to find out what type of automobile had VIN of T1063 in 1918.
