Just finishing a minor refresh on the front end. High tight do you make the king pins when screwing them into the axle? I understand the nut with the cotter pin goes on last to secure it. It wasn't real tight when I took it apart. The Tie rod bolts were not super tight either.
Not too tight. Just snug. The nut gets the same treatment. Then a cotter pin.
Just snug enough that the pins don't move at all when you turn the spindles.
Make sure you have clearance between the spindle and axle.
The spindle bolt controls the play in the vertical play to some extent depending on how much the bushing face clearance is. The nut is a jam nut and locks the spindle bolt in position. The spindle bolt should be held in position with a wrench and the nut securely tightened. If you just snug the nut its jam function may be incomplete and permit the spindle bolt to have some play in the threads.
