The Shackles are the bits which attatch the spring to the rear axle. The other posters have given you ways to connect these.

By Roger Karlsson, southern Sweden on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 - 02:24 pm:If you can't clamp the spring tight enough to fit the clips, custom size clips should be easy to make, just a piece of strap steel, two bends, two holes and a thread. The bolt could be reused. I painted the leafs with a thick mix of graphite paint and had a hard time fitting the original clips with just paint (and grease) between them..
If the ride gets soft and bouncy, you may look at fitting Model A shocks since some of the usual friction dampening in the spring pack is lost..

He is 100% right you do have to make new ones. 3/16 X 3/4 inch flat bar (available anywhere) is what I use. I have not had the bouncing problem that he mentioned but I do not cruise long distances. I also usually used the thicker gauge (mil) industrial Visqueen and never bought any of the product that was mentioned here. But again we did this in the 70;s and early 80's. good T'ing!
