I put this here as a test. If ONLY registered users are allowed to post, then all the email harvesting as well as the "work at home" postings coming from India and Pakistan would be eliminated. By having mandatory entries of address and phone numbers in the profiles, as well as email addresses, and then only let registered users see the profiles, this would lock down the classifieds to fairly reputable people and keep the riffraff out. Plus, email notification of each time a for sale item appears. Ideas? Comments? Could probably limit it to members only.

It could work! They may eventually figure away around it -- but it probably wouldn't be worth their time so they would move on to an easier target.

Hello, Some of the best "for sale" items on the classifieds come from people that are not "fanatic" Model T hobbyists and might only post something on the classifieds once or twice in a few years. I think that the easiser it is to post something for sale, the more likely it will be that the "casual user" will post items. The junk listings from overseas, the spam, and all the scam letters are easily identified and skipped over. I would rather sort thru a mix of good ads and spam than miss something good that might not otherwise get posted if the classifieds were not so easy for anyone to post to.

I bought 3 different cars from the MTFCA classifieds, none of sellers were members of the club. If we limit the classifieds to members only we would not see those types of adds. I agree with Adam the junk posts are easily skipped over. The cream always comes to the top.

Sounds good. Whatever the Powers That Be decide is OK by me.

After all, why else are we paying them these Big Bucks? (Grin)
