Just found a gas leak on a 1926 roadster. (Cowl gas tank)
The gas is leaking out of the little hole behind the shutoff valve in the engine room.
The leak comes just after filling up the gas tank till about 1" under the gas cap.
Is there an easy way to repair it or had to look for an other gas tank??
There is a hole in the overflow tube, it is very hard to repair, don't fill it all the way.
Pictures? I used JB Weld without much success on an oval tank around the sediment bulb. Could have been operator error but I was pretty careful. Ended up purchasing a new tank (1923).
Good used tanks for 26/7 are hard to come by.

Sounds like a leak in the over flow pipe. About the only way to fix it is to open the tank up.
I fixed my seep leak from the overflow tube with gas tank sealer.
Got two corks and trimmed them to fit the upper end and the lower outlet, with the lower plugged, poured in the gas tank sealer (purchased the motorcycle size can from Bill Hirsch). Then capped the upper, rotated the tank many times to slop the sealer up and down inside the overflow tube.
Poured out, let dry, then repeated the step 2 more times with drying in-between.
Aluminum Devcon 2 part (4:1 ratio) epoxy putty (Mcmaster Carr PN 74575A72) works great! Once it has cured, it can be machined like steel. Repair can also be made as smooth as glass and feathered by stroking the partially cured putty with a wet finger. Go to www.mcmaster.com and type epoxy putty into search box. Jim Patrick
