My grand daughter in her twenties is hired to buy tractors from farmers. News came out farmers are upgrading tools for fear of possible lost labor of new federal laws.
Might be a good time to tractor shop if you could find one that fits your need for the right price!

You are probably right Dan-----my 61 Massey with a shuttle transmission has been a God send moving thousands of yards of material and will run all day on five gallons of diesel. A fart tax on cows does not make much logic to me.

Califunny has been buying and crushing pre 1997 diesel tractors for a while now. My Ca. tax dollars hard at work, thanks to Governor Jerry Rot Brown. Those are truly lucky people that are in a position to be able to sell out and leave Califunny. Yes G.R., the Ca. politicians are probably working on a carbon tax on coffee. The people must be controlled.

If the Nancy Pelosi crew had their way California's would have to wear meters and be taxed for the air they breathe!

Talked to some guys at John Deere and some others in the trucking field, yes out with the old in with the new due to regulations. A lot of the old stuff is being shipped out of the country(i.e., Mexico). Interesting times.

The LA Times ran an AP article about a California farmer who is purchasing newer, automated farm equipment anticipating a farm labor shortage in the future. A similar scenario may be occurring in England. Time to invest in farm equipment companies!

The voters in California approved the plastic bag ban with Prop 67 52% to 48%. The state did not take away plastic bags, the people of California chose to give them away. It's a bad law, but let's lay the blame where it is due. How many people actually read the bills and propositions they are voting on?

Tom is right, the voters of this state approved much of the mess we are in now. A few years back we (not me!!) approved a proposition that DE-criminalized many acts in a plan to reduce the prison population. That it did, but now we are faced with a huge increase in "petty crime." Of course Gov. Moonbeam is patting himself on the back for reducing prison populations ( he spearhead that proposition).

I'm a native Californian. From where I live I can drive to the coast for a day at the beach or I can drive to the mountains for the day. I can drive 200 miles north or 200 miles south and see one of the most productive agricultural valleys on earth. Our weather is warm in summer and mild in winter. California has it all.

For some reason I don't understand we are hell bent to destroy this beautiful and wonderful state. There were 17 state ballot initiatives on our ballot in November. There was one to speed up the death penalty process, one to abolish it, and one to require porn actors to wear condoms in addition to the one to ban one-time use bags and 13 others.

Tom is on the right track. I don't believe many (most) voters have a clue of the true effects of the measures they vote on. The initiative process is, IMHO, the worst possible way to make law. California history over the past few decades proves this.

It's all very discouraging. Sometimes I think there's no hope for actual improvement.

The tractor world is in for a big change in the very near future. Companies have been working for at least a decade to design self-driving tractors, just the same as our cars will soon be controlled by computers.

I once talked with one of the engineers designing the new tractors. I said, "So, can you get your tractor going and then just step off and go take a nap, while your tractor plows the back 40?

He answered, "Well technically, you could do that, but we are not going to advise anyone to do that. We advise that a human must be inside the tractor while it is operating, in case the need should arise for that person to take over the controls."

Its all here. The farmers were making perfectly straight rows. I was pretty impressed knowing how hard it is to line up the radiator cap on a fence post at the other end of the field and achieve perfect rows. The I noticed them txting and watching me in the yard. The tractors do it all . Gps takes over and the farmer just rides along. Fetilizer is the same. They put in info from harvest and it tells where fetilizer is needed and what ammounts which changes on the fly. They dont have to much traffic or people to worry about but its all here now.

That is the only Japanese built machine I bought willingly was my Kubota L2550 with loader attachment. I have looked at the new 1's and I wouldn't trade my old machine for 2 of them. They took a simple machine and made it so you would have take it to the dealer for some computer issue.

Try working on many modern cars without a hand held computer and information on operating it Mack. It will tell you where to look for the issue. Us old folk are used to a T----simple but will not do the hours the Japanese tractor will.
