I have a 20 Touring that I am planning to get started on restoring and have been thinking about painting the main body another color other than black. Yes I know the 17-25 era is all black. I have seen several examples online and was looking for a Model T Ford color chart of some kind but could nor find one. The color paint codes are avaliable on the T Encyclopedia but not any online colors themselves that I can find. Did I overlook them or is there any out there. I have thought about using one of the 26-27 colors.

No color chips are available that match original colors, Ford didn't provide any.

So you are left with matching colors from Ford print adv, or from original paint on proved original cars, or using the modern cross reference formulas.

The vendor supplied paints, Bill Hirsch, MAC's,etc are recognized as close to the original.

Thanks for the response. I was thinking that the vendors who have matched the colors as close as possible would have come out with a color comparison chart. As much information that has come out about the Model T in the last several years it just seems like there would have been a booklet or something to go by.

You can request a color chip from the vendors if you are trying to see what the finish will look like.

There never was a color chart or chips for original Ford color enamels Channel green M-392 or Winsor maroon M-393 [early '26] and then the later '26-'27 color Pyroxylin material, in Commerical green, Gunmetal blue, Highland green, Fawn gray, Phoenix brown, or Royal maroon.

So you just can't make a 'comparison chart'....there's nothing existing to compare. Even original paint on a 80 year old Model T is pretty faded by now.

So pick a color you like to paint your T.

You could always try 26-27 Ford Royal Maroon, it almost looks black in the right light?

So Dan, do you have the original color Ford advertisements showing the other '26-7 colors?

Nope, not all the colors, my original brochure is the early '26 and shows just the early Improved enamel hues, Channel Green and Windsor Maroon.

I personally use PPG products on all the projects we restore, of which PPG purchased Ditzler many years ago and converted their formulas. The difference now comes that most paint pigments are much cleaner than what you would have found back in the day. I will say that cheaper paints use cheaper pigments which make them more like original paint.

Now with that said, if you want to mail order, here is an option www.modelacolor.com. If you notice, some of the colors for the 'T' are listed there. PPG's AutoColor Library can send your PPG paint jobber the formulas too.

Thanks for all the pics and color names of the paints. I went with my wifes cousin on this years Model A Texas Tour and there was some A's that had the gunmetal blue and the deep maroon color. It could be the royal maroon thats on the 2 door sedan. And by the way there was a Model A Coupe that was pink and looked really sharp! I dont think that was a Model A color. I guess that shows the Model A guys like a little variety also.
