Well here is a fun inventive accessory gas cap for your old FORD. You wind the bell on top up and when the gas gets to low the wood float drops and pulls the chain sounding the alarm bell. The bottom of the float when fully extended sits 8 inches from the top of the tank.

I didn't think the accessories really got into full swing till the Model A era. I'm beginning to wonder about that.

Thanks once again Jay for your postings.

Jay

That is a good one! Wind up bell.

Riding along in your open car back then and hearing a ring a ding a ding...when low on gas....oh what inventors can do :-)

I knew about this one.....like a cowbell, it would sound off when the gas got low :-) But that wind up one is best I think, you wind it when you fill the tank, and it has positive action, not susceptible to going off when you hit a rough spot in the road like this Cowbell :-)

Boy, I don't know if I'd be scared when that bell went off, or if I would be able to hear it with all the rattling in my jalopy.

As for the cowbell, all I can think about is the more cowbell sketch on saturday night live.
I will try a link,

Yea Chris, I was wondering about hearing them above the noise and the seat cushion on top of it not to mention Grandma and Grandpa sitting on it as well. I think like many accessories some were a good idea and some were not but regardless they all look great on the display shelf.

I don't think you want more cow bell.

or if you were low on fuel and put it up for the night and ole lizzie leaked enough during the night that the alarm went off in the garage..hummmm if a tree falls in the forest, does anyone hear it.:-)

Wayne, if a man says something in a forest and there's no woman around to hear it, is he still wrong? :-)

"If a man yells in the forest and no woman hears, is he still wrong?"

My wife bought a sign like that, and crossed out forest, and inserted, "garage." It's at the entrance to my poor old garage.

Yes he is!! Because he should be taking out the trash, instead of being in the forest!
