Yesterday was the first day of the 2010 Show-Me Tour in Rogers AR. It had rained heavily early in the morning, and we had to dry the cars before we set out. It rained again as we left, but then began to clear up. We went to The Headquarters House Museum in Fayetteville, where the Civil War Battle of Fayetteville was fought. From there we went to the Hog Haus Brewery for a delicious lunch, then on to the Arkansas Air Museum. While we were touring the museum, the director told us that there was some severe weather on the radar that was about to pass though, so he opened a hangar and let people put their cars inside. About 25 people took him up on the offer. When we finally got underway again, we skipped the tour route and drive straight back to Rogers. Dinner was at Famous Dave's Legendary Pit Barbecue.... way more than anyone could finish!

Just got back from a great all-you-can-eat fried chicken dinner. Here are the pictures from Day 2. After about an hour on the road this morning, the rain started coming down so hard that we had to pull into a convenience store, go inside and wait it out for 30 minutes or so. By the time we got to Terra Studios, it had cleared up and a little later, the sun was shining. Go figure!

This is a stalwart bunch. A few went home early, but most are still here driving their T's in the rain. And more rain and more rain. Karol Spencer (one of the tour organizers) said the only thing they had found so far that is "dry" is Benton County. :-)

Dick,

Vonnie and I wanted to go on this tour, but couldn't because of scheduling on our part. Was good to see the pictures and to see that Hattie and Dale Finnigsmier (white Speedster) made it OK. Great job!

George, I'm not a big FB fan, but applaud your efforts.

Well, we just got back from the closing banquet and the 10th annual Show-Me Tour is now history. Today we went to the Pea Ridge National Military Park, the Museum of Native American History and the Wal-Mart 5 & 10 Museum in Bentonville.

It rained again today (what's new??), but not as hard as it has - more of an off-and-on drizzle. It was a short day - about 60 miles - with several interesting stops.

It was good to see Mike Walker again. He had originally planned to be on the tour, then had a conflict that made him cancel. Fortunately, the conflict was partially resolved and he was able to join us for many of the tour events.

Hi, Dick -- It was good to see you and Anja again, and to meet your friends Kent and Kathy. Also good to meet fellow Forum member Tim Eyssen from Texas. (I won't hold that against him since he's a Model T guy.) :-) Tim has a very nice '26-7 Touring.

I was glad I could join the Tour after all, and glad to be able to help out some folks in need. The Show-Me Tour is always a good one, and among the best-organized anywhere, year after year. Karol and Dorothy always do a great job of putting it together.

To all who are reading this thread: Mike Walker was not only good company on this tour, but he also became eligible for induction into the Order of the Saint Bernard. On the way to Rogers, Kent and Kathy had stopped for gas just before the Missouri-Arkansas state line. Kent noticed that they seemed to have a lot of beer and wine for sale, but decided to wait until Rogers to stock up.

I should mention here that Missouri does not have dry counties. In fact, Wikipedia has this to say: "Missouri state law specifically prohibits any counties, or unincorporated city or town from banning the retail sale of liquor, but only allows incorporated cities to ban the sale of liquor by the drink by public referendum. No incorporated Missouri cities have ever chosen to hold a referendum banning alcohol sales. In addition, Missouri state law specifically supersedes any local laws that restrict the sale of alcohol."

Naturally, then, the concept of a dry county was the last thing on Kent's mind. But.... guess what Benton County AR is!! Yep. We mentioned this to Mike Wednesday evening and when he met us at Terra Studios Thursday morning, he had a cold six-pack of beer for Kent and Kathy and a cold bottle of wine for Anja and me.

Service above and beyond.... Thanks again, Mike! :-)

I should have warned someone! Been going to Rogers for over 30 years now since my wife's family is there. I have two good beer run spots scoped out - one is in Missouri north of Buena Vista and the other is in Springdale, AR. don't touch the stuff myself :-), but my wife's family quit drinking once, and at least 5 liquor stores went broke :-)

I really wanted to join the tour this year because I know the area so well, and the company on the tour would have been outstanding - kind of like the farmer outstanding in his field!

Seriously, looks like it was a great time inspite of the "damp" weather! As soon as I retire, I hope to join all of you on the Show Me Tour!

Take Care All!
Mike

Mike, turns out my great-grandfather wasn't anywhere near the Battle of Fayetteville. I found the stuff my cousin sent me. He was in the 8th Arkansas Infantry, started in Pocahontas, marched east and was captured in Georgia in November 1863. Here's what I found on line:

DAY. J.L. Pvt Enl 16 Nov 1861 at Pocahontas, AR. Captured at Graysville, GA and sent to MP at Rock Island, IL 1 Jan 1864. Enl US Navy 5 Feb 1864.
