That first picture must be Washington DC: six people doing a one man job.

2nd to last picture.

Is that Mike Mulligan standing next to the second Fordson in line?

Sure it is!

Picture number 7 must be the Fordson delivering a new boiler for Mary-Anne.

That was my favorite book growing up.

Great pictures!!!

In picture 4, the farmer is wearing a tie. Maybe he's a "gentleman farmer?"

I would agree, but if we focus on other than the number of people, this image also makes a broader statement about American society in that era.

In the first picture I believe there are two men running the grader. The rest appear to be bystanders (bywalkers?).

Randall's observation puts me in mind of a relative 100 years ago who fancied himself a gentleman farmer. He wore his Sunday clothes under his overalls so he could peel and appear quite the gentleman if he saw anybody coming down the road. Mom said his daughter would come down to visit and bring all the latest Kansas City sophisticated trends to her bumpkin cousins here on the farm.

There were jobs to go round and a gentleman's word was his word.

I have a few pictures of Fordsons that I want to post, including one in service at an RAF airfield during WWII with a bomber in the immediate background, but I am going to have to write and get permission from the authors. I don't want to run aground of copywrite laws.

Now, just what is THIS Fordson for?

Air compressor for jack hammer, etc., on construction site. Notice the big air filter on the intake. It would run off the belt pulley on the side of the Fordson.

Thanks Stan, I see it now. You can see the belt along the side and run under the idler near the front as well.
The radiator would be cooling the compressor I guess.

Cheers
Adrian

Interesting that they'd take so much care to put wide wheels on the front of the golf course rig but leave the cleats on the back wheels. Sort of defeats the purpose, I'd think.

Spent many an hour cutting firewood on a saw rig similar to photo 2 and I don't think that's "dust" coming off the field in the plow photo. My dad said you could hear a Fordson plowing from 3 miles away.

I have hauled many an oilfield steam boiler like the one shown, the only difference was that ours had a long "snout", making them about twice the size shown. We hauled them with the firebox hanging on the winch line behind the truck, and the "snout" over the pole trailer. It was a heck of a load for the trucks of the day, I don't see how that little Ford tractor moved the silly thing from a dead stop.
