I was tipped off about this auction last month, so I drove up there this morning to bid on a 1915 T.
OK Steve. How about a selling price.
Tim
I decided ahead of time that I wouldn't go over 12 grand. I started the bidding at a thousand and it quickly went to twelve, at which point there were just two of us left. In the heat of back and forth I went north of thirteen, then came to my senses and stopped. The other guy got it for $14,000. I talked to him later, and it turned out he was 81, from Florida, didn't know much about T's, never had one before, but just liked this car. I expect he probably would have gone to twenty or more.
Body plate indicates January 1915 - that is an early '15 as the 1914 model year went through at least December 1914.
Did you write down the serial number and casting date?
With the car sold, next up was the trailer full of parts and tools. About four of us fought it out for this stuff. I suppose I spent more than I should have, but I think I got some good items.
Eight reamers and a bushing driver, $80.
21 "batteries" (that's what the young fellow taking notes for the auctioneer wrote down), $10 each.
Timer parts and several spark plugs, including four Champion X, $5.
Five carburetor bodies, $20 each.
Two good front hubs, two good back hubs, and a brass tire pump, $42.50, and a box of gaskets, including two new head gaskets, $5.
One used coyote, free for the taking, but I didn't have room for it.
On the car, the casting date on the engine was 11-23-15, making it a 1916 engine. The serial number was too banged up to be readable.
It was an enjoyable day and I think I got a couple of good buys, so it was worth the trip.
Steve, I think you done good! Dave
Does the car run?
Now he has to haul it to Florida. And he doesn't even know how to drive it.
Looks like you came out way ahead on the other stuff.
Yeah, they started it up and it sounded OK. I did notice that some of the bushings in the front suspension looked worn, but replacing those isn't a big deal.
I haven't noticed prices for complete, solid, and mostly correct '15 touring cars but $14K for this makes the two '15 tourings recently posted in the classified ads look like really good deals at $13,500 and $15K.
I saw a set of reamers like that sell for 600.00 on tbay, so you did pretty good.
Egad! Looking today at the retail prices for some of the tools I didn't buy, I should have kept bidding. Fap!
Good Job Steve. Dave
