Sitting watching morning TV relaxing after an awesome Pentecost weekend in company with thousand of mechanic entusiatstic volunteers, exhibitors and spectactors at this years Græsted Steam fair and swapmeet.
This year was a first time for many, also the Danish Model T club, as we had our own boot this year:

We also participated in the show together with "Benløse Volunteer Firebrigade" - a club of firebrigade entusisats - with a 1919 Touring on sunday and my car on Monday.
We demonstrated the "Ellehammer Model T Fire pump" designed by Denmarks Edison - I.C.Ellehammer. Ellehammer was behind a lot of inventions and was among the first to fly in Europe.

The pump is not heavier than it can be carried by one man (two recommended) and it is place behind the car with the forks on the rearend. Then the two or three men press it down and the rear wheel is liftet from the ground:

A belt is placed over the tire and the wheel on the pump:

In the meantime roll out hoses to a water source (we used a 1000 l tank) and towards the fire. Start the Ford and enganged the gear in high:

Spray the water towards the flames:

This pump can deliver 250l/min and should be able to reach 10 meters up.
They can be connected in series if the distance from the fiepond to the fire are long.
These where deployed in many small communities. There was small buildings at the central cross road or square in the village where originally a horsedrawn fire wagon was stored. Now a number of these Ellehammer pumps was there - the volunteer firemen grap their Fords and drove down to pick up the pumps and out to the fire.
The picture of the boot is taked early Sunday where we had My 1922 Custom Fordor, a 1919 Touring and a 1923 Touring (first public appearance after finished restoration). Later came a 1913 Runabout with canadian drivetrain and a 1910 Runabout. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of that as there where so many spectators :-)
For those interested in seeing the various steam engine, stationary engines, DC3 engine in operation etc etc I refer to the fairs own website:
http://www.veterantraef.dk/
It mostly i danish but "Billeder" = Pictures.
It is realy a tence and hence relaxing event. I had my 12 years old twins with me on sunday and I only saw them when they came to get more money or lunch :-)
Let me finish this "report" with showing the sand sculpture that was made during the fair:

Unfortunately I forgot the camera monday :-( but with my mobile camera I took this picture when the sculpture was finished late Monday afternoon:

Michael, looks like a great event. I had forgotten about the three-day Pentecost holiday I used to have when I was living in Holland (Pinksteren). You apparently have it in Denmark as well. It's not celebrated as anything special in the US.

Wow, thats great! I have never seen a fire pump like that. It seems that I remember you telling us about it once though. Neat to see it in action.

Here is a picture from when my car was in play and I controlled the throttle:

Note the powerful beam of water! I did not gave it full throttle but the guy standing with the hose came to me and remarked that he thought I gave it what it could take....
We where many that had an awesome day!

I could see that degenerating into some "accidental overspray" if you know what I mean. Sure looks like a FUN event. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Erich - approx. 19.000 danes will agree that it was a fun event. 11.500 passed the entry on sunday and just (a little disapointing) 7.000 on monday (they have predicted showers but none came over) + hundreds of volunteers. :-)

That is definately one of the demo's done by I.C.Ellehammer - probably for one of the two rescue compamies we had back then - Falck or Zonen. The gentleman farest to the left could very well be I.C. Ellhammer him self.

Did I mention that Ellehammers company still exists?
I shall not say if their firepumps where involved in the terrible fire accident in the Mexican Gulf, but that's what they make today - marine fire fighting pumps.
They have a funny little movie on their website:

Enjoy!
