What is the exact size of the castle nuts that hold the radius rod to the front spring perch? i know they are 18tpi, but are they 9/16 or 5/8?

9/16 fine thread, be sure to chase the threads with a new dye 5.50 at NAPA. Every flat of a nut tightening pushes the rear end center 5 thou.

Read it wrong sorry Rob, you were talking about the wish bone not the radius rods. I will check if some one else does not post.

Early or late?

late. And they are 5/8. Just went to my local hardware store and bought the proper castle nuts for it. Yes, there are still places that sell them!! It is a 23, and pics of the final product, my complete restoration, will be online here soon. I hope.

It takes a special round nut on the bottom, spring perch nut.

Thanks for pointing that out richard. I had noticed that, and they did have some in stock. This place sells stuff like that, they supply to all the machine shops, farm equipment places, etc. I havent found anything yet these folks dont have

Rob,

I think Richard is refering to the fact that these nuts have a large chamfer on their backside that fits nicely in the tapered hole in the end of the radius rod. A plain nut with a square, flat back isn't correct. Kind of hard to believe your hardware store had such a nut.

You could however modify a standard nut to do the job right.

jerry, I brought in my old, rounded rusted nuts (haha) and they werwe able to match it up. Apparantly they are used on older farm equipment for similar applications, or so the 70 year old guy behind the counter told me

I believe it would be worth the trip to Nova Scotia just to visit that store! :-)

If you go to Nova Scotia, bring your T as I can hardly think of a more beautiful place to drive it. It would be fun to take it on the ferry too. While your at it, head over to New Foundland. You will feel like you found T driving paradise in both places.

Sorry for the rabbitt trail.
