I put in a new rear outside axle bearing sleeve, now the bearing won't go in without miminum force. I measured the other sleeve and it miked .070 - .071. Yes I cleaned the inside of sleeve bore. I question the thickness of the sleeve. What do you think?
I tried to take it out and now its jammed.

Its the bearing end plates that are hanging up.

Only thing that comes to mind immediately is maybe you placed the wrong sleeve, they are left and right. If the sleeve 'dimple' doesn't fit into the housing lock hole, then the sleeve can be 'racked' oblong and a Hyatt won't fit.

Since the sleeve you post is now jammed, that may be the case.

You will have to pull that sleeve out, inspect, test fit the Hyatt in the sleeve by placing a couple of screw type radiator clamp around the sleeve, and tighten to approximate the dia. of the sleeve when in the housing and test the bearing fit. Check the Hyatt to be sure its not racked, and the Hyatt end plates are square.

Something is amiss, and will have to be checked.

thank you dan but the dimple was in the hole and the grease hole was at the grease cup hole, the point is pointing in the direction of forward travel. I tried two different bearings. No luck.
I did finally got the sleeve out. Had to distroy it. My removal tool would not turn it. It to measures the 70 -71 thousands.

Tyrone

Is the a redo or first time with the axle parts?

Maybe the axle shaft is off center, check that too.

The sleeve lines the housing hole, the axle shaft fits in the Hyatt, the Hyatt should slide in with some firmness, when fully greased.

Perhaps either the housings are off or the axle shaft is too?

Dan, is there a sleeve in your axle housing in the photo? Does the 26 use the bearing sleeves? I am replacing all wear parts outside the bearing themselves. The bearing all look good and are tight. I tried your hose clamp idea and the bearing fit fine.

ok, i put the "right" side in. goes in with a little effort but it went in fine and works just fine. It has been awhile since I've done this, im trying to rebuild this car with care, I just freaked out a little. All is good except i have to buy another left sleeve now. But cheap price to be able to sleep at night. Thank you so very much Dan. You were a great help. ty

Glad your repair was a success :-)

And to answer your earlier post, yep, good eyes you have, there is no sleeve in that pic, I made that pic as a 'setup' just to show how to use a wire or other probe to get a Hyatt out of the housing.

I use the modern neoprene inner seal with the collar nose on it, grease that goody, then slide it in place over the axle shaft very slowly so that the leading lip doesn't fold or twist on itself. Use a piece of cut to length PVC tubing to slide it in.

The in goes the new metal sleeve, crimped temporary closed with a screw down radiator clamp for inserting it, then locked into the hole, then fit the well-greased Hyatt, finally that little plug that comes with the modern outer seal cap is fitted into the 'hole' on the perimeter of the housing end that locks the sleeve dimple. Then on with the nice modern outer seal cap.
