Question in subject.
I use a block of wood or a hammer handle and "gently" tap it in place.
Before do some prep work and clean around where the plug seals. Coat both of the sealing surfaces with a light coat of high temp permanent adhesive sealant then tap in.
Thank you for your advice.
Make sure that the freeze plug has the dome facing out so that when you tap it in, it will spread out and tightly seal.

If you are using a Buffalo nickel for a freeze plug, make sure the buffalo is right side up. If not, he will try to get upright, upsetting your T.
Great , this helps me too, my front freeze plug just wont stay water tight, good clean edges, the other two, perfect, thanks for the help, Great question Andrew.

I put the freeze plug in a socket the same size and dish it a little more with a ball peen hammer as some plugs are too large for the recess Then I drive the plug into the recess with the same socket
make sure it is evenly all the way in Then I flatten it with a 3/4 dia rod Use sealant too
