Hi guys, after sorting out all the issues I had with the car, I thought it was a good time to keep all the promises I made to a group of older gents that wanted a ride. Well we were cruising along out in the country side and she[the car] started to sputter and die. We pulled over and I cracked the drain plug on the sediment bulb and you could hear air gurgling in the fuel tank. Started up and off we went with out a problem again. What would cause this to happen? This was the first time this has happened to me. John F.

Check the breather hole in the fuel cap. If clogged, a vacuum will form in the tank and fuel will not flow. OPENING the valve allowed air to enter the tank (from the bottom side) and relieved the vacuum. Just a guess.

Thanks Bill, that sounds like that's what caused it to happen I'll check it out. John

Hi Bill, just looked at the cap and it didn't have a breather hole so I put one in. John

My cap has no breather hole but it never acts up. I don't know why.

Doug, how tight are the threads and do you have a gasket on your cap? If the threads are loose and you don't have a gasket, it would likely let in enough air. The threads on my coupe tank have a slot cut through them in one spot, looks like it was done with a hacksaw. I had to put a gasket on the cap to keep from sloshing out too much gas. Dave
