Do the springs on a TT finally become weak and cause the vehicle to lean to the side? I have looked for a broken spring or some other evidence that would cause my "27 TT to lean to the left a little over an inch. Any suggestions as to the cause?
Was the center leaf bolt head of each of the springs perfectly centered and seated in the crossmember alignment holes before the U-bolt securement clamps were tightened? Jim Patrick
Wayne,
There may be some weak leaves. It generally helps to take the springs apart and trade off every other leaf with the opposite spring. It kind of averages out the error.
My `25 4 door sedan had a similar problem, I unbolted the 2 spring shakles and inserted a small shim on the top (low side) of the spring and tightened it back up. Doesn`t take much and its a quick and easy "fix" Good luck----Paul
Does it appear to be the front or the rear springs that are the problem?
The rears are pretty beefy, so a weak leaf is unlikely, IMHO. When I worked mine over, I found that there was a missing rear leaf. Why someone would assemble it that way is still a mystery, but that's what caused mine to lean a little.
The front spring is more likely to have a weak leaf or two. Also, I found my front spring perch bushings and spring bushings worn through and the shackles very worn. The combination gave it a little more tilt.
Good Luck!!
All the leafs are there and I will check to see if the bolt is centered.
Wayne, I have taken TT springs apart and found broken leaves that weren't able to be seen until they were disassembled. Dave
