I have an oil leak that seems to be coming from the ball cap on the end of the trans. It doesn't appear to be from the 4 bolt gasket but from the ball ( slipjoint?) itself. Is it wear or is a seal missing/worn? '23 Touring.

Is the housing full of grease as it should be? The grease helps to prevent the oil from migrating through to the ball cap.

I've read that before and I honestly don't know. However,is it wise to keep pumping in grease until the leak stops?

One other thing: I have 4 quarts in the eng. and get a very slow drip from the top petcock. Am I overfilled?

Keep pumping in grease until you get some leaking out. It may take 4 or 5 caps filled w/grease to do the job

If the plug is missing from the tail shaft, no amount of grease will prevent it from dripping. It is one of the things on my "to do" list. I have the same problem. Even with the ball joint full of grease the oil mixes with grease and runs out. Could also be the 4th main is worn and oil is getting past it into the ball joint.
