Hi guys, thinking about a 27 touring & wondering if one would fit in my enclosed trailer. When I had my 13, I had to fold the windshield down to fit it itn. Does the front windshield of a 27 touring fold at all? If it does not, does anyone know how tall it is?

Nope. It will open, but not fold down. I don't have one of these, but I measured my '23 touring. The top of the windshield is 73" above the floor. I believe the improved car is a little lower, so I would expect its windshield to be an inch or two lower too.

Bryan,

I measured mine this morning.
With the top up at the back it's 76" and at the windshield post it's 68"

The '26-'27's are a little lower than the earlier ones. :-)

And Steve is correct the windshield does not fold.

If you need any more info let me know.

Thanks,
Larry Bohlen, '27 touring

Two things you need to measure. One is the opening in the trailer and the other is the height of the windshield posts. Of course, you might want a trailer tall enough to drive the car in with the top up! You need to measure the actual car you want to place in the trailer, because they will vary according to the arch of the springs.

Thanks guys, I love this internet forum. I share a trailer with my Dad. I need to touch base with him to see how high the trailer is. Thank you for taking the time to measure it. At least I'm aware I may not be able to haul it in the closed trailer. I have a feeling it's going to be too tall.

I'm starting to look around for a 27. I had a 13 a few years ago & but sold it to buy a model A. I kind of regret it now, and my girls (4 and 6) and I want a convertible again. I'm saving up some scratch so we can keep the model A (nice car too) and maybe get a touring that we can drive a little more than we did the 13.

I'm sure I'll have more questions as I start looking around. Does Bruce's second book have any more info in it on 27's than his first?

Bryan, In my search for an enclosed trailer, I looked at 4 or 5 different brands and I discovered that the car haulers started at 6 1/2 foot inside height. The cargo trailers which some people use, are probably a little different, and didn't have the "Beaver tail". ramp at the entrance.

I bought a new trailer to haul my truck and ordered it with an extra 12" to fit my tall cab. I was told it would be the size I needed but then the plywood floor made it about an inch shorter than my truck. With the ramp door and long wheelbase of the truck it still clears by half an inch even with the truck an inch taller than the door opening. I know I can never load where the door will lay flat to the floor but it works forward and backwords for loading the truck on leavel ground. If your car is close to the opening size it may still fit but take it real slow!

Bryan, Bruce's second book has a lot more info on every model T than the first - but it's out of print and getting hard to find. I checked the online catalogs of the four big vendors and only Chaffins still had it listed at $40. At Amazon sellers tries to get from $145 and up for used ones.

Bruce sells a DVD with everything from the book + a lot more of what he has discovered since it was printed in the 90's.

There's so much info now that Bruce has it on two disks. Very much worth the price.
