Have you guys seen the 1915 Roadster on Ebay. Is that a good deal or what?

Bruce -- The only '15 runabout I see on ebay is this one, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Model-T-1915-Ford-Model-T-No-Reserve-/250685 700414?pt=US_Cars_Trucks with the opening bid set at $2,500.

There are not $2,500 worth of usable parts on that car.

It's a great deal if you like to waste your money.

I agree with Mike, no way it's worth $2500. Even at $500 you may come out with nothing but a few useable '15 pieces. No way to know whether the engine is trash but looking at the condition of the remainder, there's a good chance that it could be.

Cost more to get it home than it's worth. He should pay someone to take it away.

That is Ardeen Vaughan selling it. He reminds me somewhat of Mr Haney on Green Acres.

Remember the episode where Mr Haney was trying to sell some alledged "Moon Rocks" to Mr Douglas?

Haney: Most of these [rocks] came from the dark side of the moon.

Oliver: How were they found?

Haney: With a flashlight.

I think the Hoyt Clagwell reference is fitting. I'd give him no more than $1000 for it.

What amazes me about T's in this condition is that first impression that it's been in a fire. All the wood and vinyl is gone. Just springs and sheetmetal and chassis are left but those hickory spokes hang in there. They may not be useable but their there.

Man, You guys are harsh. If that car were at Model T Haven, it would be priced at $3,500 and half the guys on the forum would be posting about how nice a guy Mark is for listing a beautiful gem at such a reasonable price.:-)

I hope you don't think I am disparaging Ardeen or the car. Literally, Ardeen sounds and looks like Mr Haney. He's a lot of fun, and a friend of mine.

Don't pay any more for the car as a result of this message. It is exactly what it looks like.

I always thought T Haven was a little high. I've seen him asking $12 grand for a car had no body and no tires and didn't even run! I suppose he does that to run off the riff raff that just want to make T bucket dragsters. I would assume he negotiates.

I have restored things worse than that roadster and would love to have it. But, I am not buying anything over $100. these days. I wish I could get a good offer on my speedster. Things are terrible. I have gotten good parts really cheap lately. If things don't improve soon, I worry what will become of a lot of antiques when too many people just can't afford them.

Hogs head with pedals, 150. Early front end assy complete, 300. Engine block with low head 500 if it turns over and has a decent transmission. 15 steering column 100. Windshield frame 150. Early fron hubs 75 pair. 4 rims 100 if not sharp. Frame 150 with the brackets, if early. 15 rear end, complete, 150. Rear spring 75. Other misc pieces.... it has the wrong pan, and I can't tell if it has a cast brake lever; if so add 75. Most of the sheetmetal is real rough.... Of course this is assuming all of the above parts are in decent, reasonably restorable condition, and some won't be. I think $1000 is a good price, more than that and the best you'll do is break even on the value.

You guys are WAY too harsh i was thrilled to the point of disbelief when i got some rusty axle housings, 1 leafspring, 6 hubs, worn out steering column, couple of very rusty bent front gaurds or fenders as i think they call them in the 'states and a rusty frame. If i was offered that car i would have to turn it down because it is in excellent condition and too complete. It even has tyres/tires with air in them! It may be a little overpriced though

I have run in to a number of cars in this condition this past year. I do some Model T Parts Picking to recover parts for resale. 8 out of 10 times when the seller hears me offer $400-$500.00 for something like that they either laugh thinking I'm crazy or I'm a City Slicker just trying to rob them. After I haul something like that home and have a chance to really evaluate what's there to recover, even at $500.00 I can take a loss or barely break even at times. Sure it has an engine, good chance the block or head has a crack or the crankshaft is toast, now what's that engine worth? Sure it has most of the body tin hanging on it but rusted swiss cheese can't even be sold to the scrap dealer. Nobody I buy this stuff from can understand the countless hours I'll spend trying to unseize nuts and bolts froze solid for a half century or more, cleaning off the layers of rust & mouse poop, straightening what's bent and then trying to get a few more bucks for it on ebay (after ebay & Paypal take their pound of flesh). The more it still looks like a car the more people think its worth. I'm always much happier when I see a car or truck like that laying around in a pile rather than hanging together by threads resembling a car because I can see better what I'm paying for and hopefully pay much less for it.
This Spring I hauled a real junker Model A pick up home. It turned out to be a real dog. The ironic thing was, I noticed some large tin signs leaning against a chicken coop. I got the seller to throw them in the deal. In the end the three early 1920 Exide battery service signs turned out to be worth way more than what was left of the Model A truck! Cheers! jimmy

1920 metal service sign

PS. The signs didn't look like this when they were found either. Apparently chicken poop has some protective properties from the elements.

I guess it must be me. I look at stuff like this and I know I'd walk away.I think it's just that I can't see throwing more into it than it's worth. Been through too many cars over the years I suppose.

It's not just you, Charlie. I'd walk away too. I don't mind building a car up from parts, but I like to use very good parts. I think you're ahead in the long run to pay more for good parts to start with.
