Hello all,
I haven't been able to post much lately. This summer has been VERY busy.
I would like to share with you all that I am now happily engaged to my girlfriend, Jennie Wyllie.
Jennie and I have known each other since high-school and we re-connected last year. I popped the question to her on June 26th, in my 1905 2-cylinder Queen car, going down the road at 18 mph.
I wanted to catch her off guard, so I asked her if she wanted to go for a little ride in the old car. I told her it was a good day for her to learn to drive it. Jennie takes a lot of interest in the Queen and our 1915 model T touring. She is keen to learn how to drive both of them. My youngest son Caden wanted to tag along, but I told him he couldn't go this particular time, much to his dismay.
Away we go. We're enjoying the scenery, and I'm explaining the workings of the car. About five or ten minutes into our little ride, I said to her, " uh,oh...I'm not sure this would be a good day to learn how to drive this thing...". Jennie is thinking the car is acting up,and is now a little concerned. I then said, "You won't remember any of the levers, pedals or instructions, after I ask you this next question.....(slight pause to talk to God to give me courage)......will you marry me?" Before I finish saying the word "me", she yells YES,YES,YES!!!
Now, right at this moment, things get a little complicated.....
In my infinite wisdom, I've put the ring in my left pocket, the car is right hand drive, I'm left handed, and I'm trying to get the ring out of my left pocket, put it into my right hand, then try to put it on her left hand finger, all the while, trying very very hard not to ever let go of the steering wheel,as this little 106 year old car can dart all over the road with little to no warning. I'm shaking, she's shaking, and the car is shaking!
There is a mile of backed up traffic behind me, Jennie has an almost "Full Nelson" love-lock around me as if she was going to fall out of the car, and screaming..... People are trying to pass, and looking at the two of us with a "what the heck is going on" look.
It was a very exciting 45 minute ride, and it ended on a very happy note. When we got back, Caden was the only one home and the first to find out what I had asked her. His reply was: " I already figured it out ".
A lot of special people, including a few famous ones, have rode in our little Queen. It's been in our family for almost 60 years, and it holds a very special place in my heart.
This was hands down, the most important task, this little car has done, and successfully.
I couldn't think of a better place to ask the woman I love to be my wife. Jennie agrees, and said I planned it perfectly.
We will be at Dearborn this year. I hope my tires don't give me any grief(again),and please take the time to wave and/or say hello to us. I seem to miss the OCF every other year so my memory can and will embarass me sometimes.
This is a recent photo of Jennie and I in a friend's 1909 Oakland:
Congratulations, Darren!!!
You should know better than to ask those types of things while speeding. Congrats
Congratulations, Darren. I hope that you and Jennie have tons of fun together!
Seth
Congratulations! To both of you.
There is a state park in Kentucky by the name of Jennie Wyllie. I don't think it is spelled the same.

Darren,
Congratulations to you and Jennie! That she loves you is the most important part but that she likes the old cars is also very nice. Our very best to both of you as you prepare to start a new chapter of your lives together.
Respectfully submitted,

Isn't it ironic, Darren's new Queen was proposed to in Darren's Queen.
Way to go Darren! Congratulations to both of you.
Congratulations Darren and Jennie! I'll look forward to seeing both of you at the OCF.
Keith
Congratulations, May you have very happy lives together! I had to wait for my wife to ask me to marry her, it took her forever to ask, then I had to think about it. She did wear me down and I finally caved in to her demands. No fancy car ride either!
I love happy endings.
Darren -- I've followed your comments here for many years, and when you post it is usually something noteworthy. But this post is the most important of them all. Congratulations to you and your bride-to-be!!!
Darren,
Congratulations to you and Jennie! Hope to meet you some time......besides our 13 T touring we have a restored 1910 2cyl. REO and enjoy 1&2 cyl. touring.

Darren, Congratulations to you and Jennie. You both look very happy in the photo. My bride of 26 years isn't really in to old cars but she is very tolerant and puts up with my affliction and over all a good sport. As Hap said very eloquently, as usual, It's nice she shares your interest in vintage autos as well. Mike Walker said it all in one sentence. Good luck to you and Jennie.
Congratulations and best wishes to both you and your new Queen!
Drive carefully,W2
Darren: Congratulations to both of you! Keep both hands on the wheel, please.....
Hi Darren,
I haven't heard from you in awhile, obviously you have been busy.
Congratulations in your new life together.
