Is it just me or is everyone have to put your user name and password in every time you post?
It wasn't like this yesterday!
Nope, no problem here. Just type message and post. I'm using the Firefox browser, which remembers that stuff.
mine went bye-bye toooooo............Carl
John,
you have automatic updates set on your regular computer op system, or do you have system maintance set to run automatically?
Either or are known to blow out saved cookie items, which is what and where your log in and passwords are stored.
Retyping should restore the functionality, unless one of your settings from auto update included a 'clear all' on closing command
TIME OUT....haha...went to click 'post' and MY box is blank!
NEVERMIND
If I find something, I'll post again
Hmmmm....
Google chrome has it blank also, but I think Chrome shares as bunch with IE and you can never really delete all of IE either.
My password was there this morning and is gone this evening. As I was ready to post this message my username and password are gone again.
I ran no updates today. I first thought something changed when I added my city and state to my posted name. I looked at my preferences and it still shows to save my username and password.
Something has happened today.
Well I'm not glad you all are having the same trouble, but now I know it is not my computer. I hope they get it fixed soon.
I just had to redo my Username and Password a minute ago too. And had to do it again to post this. Dave
Something is messed up. My Username and Password disappear everytime I post a message. Dave
Maybe there is a system change. I was just going to post a "test" to determine a few system settings and when I started to enter my username a small box appeared. When I fully typed my username I had to enter my password. Then I cleared out my username and typed my first leter on the username and then clicked on my username in the box, low and behold my password appeared.
I think it might be the ghost of Henry! He is just "Ting" with us!
I put my name and password and now we will see what happens
It began happening to me tonight.
There has been no update to my computer and cookies are enabled.
It got me too!
Herb
Yup, me too!
I had crashed, so I thought it was just my problem. Have posted several times and does the same every time. Autocomplete passwords comes on and asks if I want it to remember, I check yes, and to no avail, same thing the next time I post.
This Mac is fine.
Yep, those quick clean functions do a good job of cleaning some things you don't want to clean.
Got me too.
It resets after every post. I've not changed any settings on my Computer so I assume it's this site that has changed.
I've been messing with this all night.
Now, here's the interesting thing. The same thing is happening to me over on the MFCTI site?
When I have something strange going on with my desk top I fire up my lap top with a broad band card and eliminate everything to do with my house computer. Same thing going on on that one?
I had a couple extra problems. I very recently changed web servers, and I couldn't remember which of my numerous passwords I used.
I tried everything I could think of. I tried to contact Bruce but I doubt he's up fooling around all night like I am, so I've yet to get a reply.
Finally I just re-registered. I've been posting here for years but according to my profile, this is my second post.
I'll get arouns to filling out my (new) profile later. My car is going to be in a parade in a couple hours. still have to log in with each post.
Mine disappared too and couldn't remember my password.
test
I have had trouble with the site after all the changes was made. I will try this time to see if this will post.
This Mac is fine too.
i made the changes yesterday and mine is gone also...
jack
gone again
jack
My Mac is fine too.
I heard that Apple is now larger than Mickysoft.
Neil
Sounds like you may have piked up some virus which deletes the saved passwords, etc. in the "cookei" file in your computer.
Bruce
Same problem with my posting.
Test
Bruce, it seems to be happening to everyone. I resaved my preferences and it still ignores the fact that I have checked "Remember my username and password."
Found it this morning.
Bruce,
I checked, my other autofill log ons still have what it takes.
Was there a change this weekend in the MTFCA architecture? Seems to me that the first page after the home page has something different....either font, or layout...this is the page where you select which forum you want. Seems to me that 'forum 2010' was a whole lot more easier to pick, may be me though...getting older, but still trying
Using windows XP - I just confirmed that my update is off and cookies are enabled. The two firewalls are active and the internet protection is up-to-date.
Confirmed that remember my username and password is checked.
I'm now running a complete scan with AVG to see if anything shows up.
Mac guys seldom have problems but as it becomes more popular they will be the next targets.
OK, so now something IS messing with my head! Logged totally out, came back in...ignore the previous post....the forum select is the same as before...and now when I type the login and click the blank password, it autofills...I know I tried that about 6 times before and got nada
Doesn't seem "selective". Guys with locations and without are getting hit.
Charlie, I've been posting my location with my name for years, and the feature has always worked for me before. I didn't change my name recently, but the feature disappeared anyway.
Fred,
The architecture of the Mac computer is fundamentally different than a Windows computer. It does not allow programs to be installed without the user's permission. Granted that security is still needed, but the Mac does not have the "open architecture" that the Windows based computers do. BTW, I am not a computer expert, so I might be a little wrong in the details.
My beef with Mickysoft is that they keep adding features without improving the basic performance of the software. In fact, they make it more error prone and less usable. From time to time I am forced to use Windows on my Mac to run certain programs, but when running Window, it is never connected to the internet.
Neil
That's what I mean Dick. Recent "Your Location" post prompted a number of people, myself included, to add their cities and states. We thought that was the cause of the problem.
Now let's see what happens. Still have to log in with my user name and password to post?
Xcel discussion;taught me a lot and "location" can be helpful.
Test
I find it easier to remember my password when I type it in each time.
My wife who has a masters in everything says it's the site not tracking the cookies. I don't know if she is right or not, I only have a masters in BS! Sounds right!
BTW She does have a masters in several things, I was just teasing her.
John, intuitively I agree with your wife. If the same malfunction happens to everyone at once, it's not everyone's individual computer, it has to be something in the forum software.
Ah, but it's not happening to everyone. I suspect Bruce is right about a virus infecting a lot of computers. Some of us are OK so far. I don't know if we're immune, or just uninfected.
Steve,
If so many of us have the same problem, is it coming from the site? I don't see how so many users can get the problem at the same approximate time from any other place.
save pw test using ie 8
Test Failed with ie 8
Test passed with google chrome
test 2 saved pw using ie8
test 2 with ie8 failed
My Google Chrome browser has pw a memory.
My IE8 dont have a pw memory.
Looks to be a Internet Explorer problem, I just loaded Flock and it works fine!
I'd ask my wife about cookies - she has a doctorate (really) – but she’ll think I’m asking her to make chocolate cookies again.
It worked once now the same trouble.
I use Mozilla Firefox. The information used to appear already filled in. Then a few days ago it stopped. I can double-click on the box and it will fill in the user name and password, but it isn't already there the way it used to be.
Mine with Firefox is giving me the error message as well.
Both boxes still show my info, and it seems to only require retyping the password to let me post.
I also get a pop-up which I assume is from Firefox asking "Would like to change the stored password for art?".
Just ran full Microsoft scan and full Avast scan. Nothing showed up.Of course, like Hogans Hero's Sgt. Schultz: I know nothing! Just glad my username & password aren't too long.
Mine too, Art - but not every time.
What I ended up doing was going to my profile, clicking on forgot password, and starting new.
Now, will it work? YES!
Seth, just did that. Didn't work for me. Go figure!
Didn't work for me either!
Thanks Seth
Tried that - seemed to go ok, used my new
'Forgotten Password Recovery Activation Key'
and still requires me to retype my password.
Not a big problem and expect with this many having a problem it will get fixed.
Art
Hmmm Also tried clicking on 'Change' to the
Change Password Pop-up and it didn't help either.
Guess that I'll just leave 'good enougth' alone.
Weird, my password is there and never left when the troubles started. But I got an error message telling me that user name and/or password were incorrect. Until I "started over".
How are y'all posting if you are still having problems?
I couldn't do anything but lurk until I got lucky with the "repair".
One more try to see if things changed, as I just posted on
another thread with no problem.
.....
Working OK now!!
Seth, it's a very minor problem. Up until a few days ago, when I was at the "Add a Message" box, my name and password were already filled in for me. Now they no longer are. If I double-click on the Username box, I am given a choice of user names (that I have used in the past for this or other websites, I guess). I click on the top one and it fills in both Username and Password and I am good to go. If I forget, it won't accept the message because I haven't supplied the necessary data. Once I do, it's happy again.
Seth,
I have to double click the username and it fills in my user name & sometimes the password, but not everytime. If it doesn't fill in the password I fill it in manualy, then it works.
Interesting, Dick. My situation wasn't similar at all.
Perhaps it is the bituminous roofing tar thingie.. I am beginning to be a believer in that danged stuff. When I scrolled down to preview this post, the user name and password were gone again. It must be the tar or the lack of it.
just a test here, logging back in
WHEN I DOUBLE CLICK ON THE USER BOX, BOTH MY HANDLE AND PASSWORD COME UP NOW...
JACK
My experience has been the same as Dick's: automatically filled in username and password until the past couple of days. I've posted a couple of messages on other threads tonite, and I have to enter the username and password each time. If I double-click on the username box, it gives me the name. But the password box stays blank, even if I double click on it. And I don't get any prompt asking me whether I want them saved. I did not change my username to add my location; it has been there for quite a while. Apparently Mac users aren't having this problem.
test
OK gang, can't fix it but can report on the latest findings.
When you get a blank username, try clicking once in the white of the box to set the cursor, then double-click and your user name will show as a selection. Click that selection to fill in the user name, and then the password auto fills. That's where I am at today.
As far as my comment yesterday about another issue? I know what it was, don't know why it happened though...it gave me a frames version of the where do you want to go page, and before I could figure it out it reverted to a page version like normal.
FWIW Bruce, there was no reason for an embedded frame in my temp files as I have never seen a frame on ANY of the MTFCA pages. On the frame version Forum 2010 is a pick in the middle of the stack, where on the regular it is the top pick....geez I thought I was going crazy! I do think something on the MTFCA server was adjusted, renested or rebooted.
My guess is somewhere on the server there is a command line that says a page call at www.mtfca/discus/messages/xxxx brings in the cookie and autofills the page when the browser is IE. (On Mac's and the Firefox etc., your cookies are stored in a different way and the load on page call may be done local and automatic and not by the host server). In IE that instruction is not executing, and with the click/double click/select/autofill it goes and finds it manually.
There may be an IE bug that went through and got us all, but so far my other pages for other things still autofill.
FWIW also, my computer is my life pretty much so I have lots more scrubbers than most. My registry is constantly scrubbed to keep my speed, then its srubbed again by another. Overkill, I know but I need that level. Last night based on the maybe a virus...I set it into a deep scan and cleanse through a lava soft product which usually catches even 'innocents' the others leave behind. Took near 10 hours...clean as a whistle based on y'days dat files. May run again tonight after it does a new .dat lockup.
How do you scrub your registery?
If double-clicking on the username space does not work for you and you don't remember your username and password, I reall can't help you at this end. I have sent the following message to those who have e-mailed me:
Apparently this is a bug in Microsoft Explorer which deletes the username and password from your computer. The usernames and passwords are still valid on the Forum database. While I can change passwords, I can't see what they were because they are hidden files. Usernames are visible so tell me what password you want to use and I'll fix it for you. It may take some time since this problem is so wide-spread and it takes a bit of time to access and change each profile.
