I've always wanted to try ball bearings, because so many Fords used them before the Timkens came out, and apparently they used them on some models through 1925. I'm working on a 1913 at the moment that has ball bearings in it, but most of them need replacing due to age and wear.
There is nothing in the Service Book that has any information on how to remove that large inner bearing cup. I knew I'd have to fashion a piece of flat stock to slip into the hub, and turn sideways to press it out. I went up to Kim Dobbins this afternoon, and we did exactly that, and it worked well. Another thing I discovered, is the grease seal isn't quite the same as the later models, not requiring the thin washer. The grease retainer is about 1/8" thinner than the one used for Timken bearings, and doesn't require the thin washer.
