Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2010: I am needing the following:

I am in need of the two corner belt rail pieces for the rear panels in a 24-25 touring. The ones that came with my kit do not fit correctly. (I think they were made incorrectly). I tried laminating some pieces together to get the curvature, but no success. These are the only two pieces of wood I need to complete my car.

The drawings I have do not show the pattern for making these pieces.

If anyone could either part with ones they don't need or make me a set I would be most appreciative. I would hate to order just the belt rail for 75.00 and only need two pieces of it.

William,

Pardon my stupidity but I have no idea what pieces you're refering to.

Do you mean the wood that goes around the edges of the front and rear seats, that the upholstery and top material tacks to? I had problems with the ones I bought for my roadster years ago. I made a fixture using the original pieces as a guide then soaked and bent the incorrect new ones in the fixture. After a month or two of drying they came out perfect. But, maybe that's not what you mean.

Yes, I am referring to the wooden curved corner pieces for the rear seat belt rail. I do not have the equipment to build a fixture nor original wood to go by.

I have the repopped pieces that came in my kit, but they are obviously not cut correctly. If I had a pattern, I could probably get a local wood shop to make them for me.

Been a long time ago when rewooding a '25 touring, used a wood kit and Miller's plans. Recall that part needed to be drum sanded down to make the taper curve fit better. Didn't get it exact, but fit it in anyway. Seemed to work out.

The Miller plans I have do not seem to have that piece as part of the patterns. OR maybe I'm just missing it.

I tried lamination of several pieces of wood, and that was a disaster.

William
If you look at plate #9 of the 1921-25 touring plans. You will see how to make the front seat belt rail corner, left side of the print. Down on the bottom is the instructions on how to make the front and back corner rail. If I can find an original back corner belt rail I will add it to the plans. I have not made the belt rails yet. As per the instructions it looks like a lot of work.
Leon

The front seat corners worked fine, it's the rear seat corners I am having trouble with. I will take a look at the plans.
