I have a small drum Ruxtell that I plan to use in my 1915 speedster. I also have a set of 26-27 wire wheels that I am considering using. Is it possible to remove the studs and separate the large brake drum from the hub and replace it with a small brake drum with holes drilled to match the studs. If this is possible,is there some sort of spacer requred somewhere so everything lines up correctly. If not possible, are there other options for using the 26-27 wire wheels and hubs with the small drum Ruxtell. I also want to use a set of small drum auxilliary brakes, probably either AC or Bennett.

It will work, but in order to use the small aux brakes you will need a 3/4 inch spacer.

I am looking at using 28-29 Model A wheels on a small drum rear end.

I saw this idea about 25 years ago. I swapped my wind up phonograph for a set. (Wrong!) I later got my T engineer buddy to weld up the 6 holes in 2 better small drums, and redrill and insert 5 studs which are tac welded. I've still got them and they look great, but I never used them. I like the larger brakes because they work better in standard form. My 2 cents
