All,
Would like to get some definite answers...are the 'improved' T springs indeed shorter in height and length than the earlier models?
Can someone please post the eye-to-eye measurement of their rear spring(s) and the overall height?
Please indicate number of leaves, year of make, and application (speedster, hack, touring, etc.). Please also indicate whether the spring(s) are loaded (actually on the vehicle under load), unloaded (body off), or sitting on the garage floor.
This would be a huge help.
Thanks!
I too need to get T springs re-tempered and set and would appreciate measurements for 21 - 25 T front and rear springs ie length and height laden and unladen as I cannot find anyone in Oz with specifications. Can anyone advise please with specs suitable for 23 huckster/depot hack. Help appreciated.
Somebody??? Anybody?
The crown of the springs were lowered by 1 inch for the improved cars is what it says in the book From Here To Obscurity. It is quoted from the factory bulletin containing information about the new models.
If you look at Lang's current catalog, you can get some idea of lengths. Their sedan spring fits 22-27 for instance.

Thanks Corey! I'm looking for a rear spring for the speedster and need to know what to look for.
The fact that I'm using a large drum Ruckstell and will be lowering the rear with laurel/Lima style brackets complicates the issue. I have seen photos posted here that show a low crown spring (presumably an improved spring) and a taller spring that had a shorter eye to eye distance.
Using the rear underslung brackets will relocate the shackles somewhat inward so I'd like to use the spring with a shorter eye to eye distance to minimize the possibility of the shackles binding.
Hope that makes sense!
Gary, I have some springs. One is missing some of the top leaves. It was bolted to a 26-27 crossmember, but to an earlier rear axle. I'd have to measure and see if it's an inch lower or if it went with the axle. It was a surprise when I took off the cross member and a block of wood fell out, the spacer for the missing leaves. If you wanted to bend the leaf up an inch or 2 before the eye, as is being discussed in another thread, looks like it could be done cold with a large brake press.
Since my post last month this is what I have been able to glean. I am having springs retempered and set accordingly and will let you know how I go when they are fitted.
