Those shifters are sometimes really messed up. They should move freely. I rebuilt one some years ago, it required quite a bit of welding, brazing and grinding to repair someone else's bad welding and repair. (Before I rebuilt it, it would slip into "never-never land" while driving. No fun in a T.)
Clean it up and try to sort it out. But if it is messed up, you may have to compare it with another to get it right. Unfortunately, I no longer have that car, or any other Warford shifter to refer to. Is there anyone near you that has one you could compare yours with?
Drive safe, W2

nothing broken or previously repaired the problem is that the shifter ball with the pin on the side doesnt move up or down with the spring and it looks like it should so the side to side movements are hampered and anybody out here that I talk to has a ruxstall

i have one, my first one and in a not yet running car, so i don't know a great deal about them. the shifter ball in the ball tower has a very positive fit. Meaning, I do not detect any sloppiness in its fit. Shifts into each gear smoothly and has a good solid side to side movement in nutrual. hope this helps

Brian hope this is what you are looking for. Prior to taking the outer cap off I pushed down on the inner cap with a screwdriver and the spring you see on the shifter shaft had good spring pressure on the inner cap. There was no sloop between the inner cap and the outer cap. Had to heat the outer cap to break the rush to get off. Let me know if this is not what you wanted.

I don't understand this issue. There is nothing complicated about the Warford shifter. Just remove the cap and pull it out and possibly clean and lubricate. It should easily engage the rails...if not, there is another problem.

well John if you look at the pin and were it sits in the tower mine doesnt let me select low and I dont have the upper retainer . shift rods both work and thank's Tyrone that looks like a retainer out of a toploader 4 spd so that spring pushes on the retainer makes sense my spring was so corroded I couldnt make it out thnx again Tyrone
