I've got 4 mixed old tires I just removed from the rims to put on new.
2 are in rough shape
1-Firestone (says gum-dipped)
1-Allstate
2 look pretty good (some side checking)
1-Allstate (different design, says fleet tested)
1-Bridgetown (bridgestone?)
Do these have any value at all or should I just mount them to the walls as bumper guards?
They are all 21".
I can post pictures if it matters.
Thanks!
Probably make a happy little tire swing. Got kids? Grandkids?
Living out in the county, we have to haul our trash to the "Conveniece Center". Used to just be 8-10 dumpsters inside a fence, but they have installed a compactor for garbage and have open tops for yard debris and old furniture, appliances, scrap metal, etc. There's also a receptacle for motor oil and a Goodwill Box. I'll have to say it is indeed convenient and was a good idea. At any rate, about the only thing they won't take is construction waste, tires and dead animals. I'm thinking if I take my Sawzall to old Model T tires and cut them into 3-4 pieces, they are no longer "Tires". Now they are scrap rubber. Right? A friend suggested I put the pieces in a black trashbag labeled "Dead Possum". That is until I told him about the dead animal restriction.
I wonder what shipping would be on the Allstate in decent shape?I have 5 ,4 which I got at Chickensaw in 08 really cheap, mounted and ready for my speedster project.
It wouldnt hurt to have a spare that looks like the rest in case i poke a hole in 1.
I use old tires under cars I'm working on until I get around to buying new ones. Sometimes, in the case of Wards Riversides, I'ld trust decent old ones farther than I would new ones. I'ld hang on to them to put on the rims of your next project (there's always a next project). I buy decent used tires at auction for $5 or $10 when I see them since it seems like I'm always eventually needing them for something or other.
Also, for tire swing use, remeber to drill a hole in the bottom so they don't accumulate water.
do they roll? are they round? will they fit a tube? then yes they are of value.
i dont think ill ever have to buy tires cuz i keep finding 80-100% tread tires for free.
Back when I was doing restorations full time and the customer didn't want their old tires I'd put them in a pile and if someone needed a tire for moving around the shop or whatever I'd tell them to come over and pick out what they needed.
I still have a few and will clean them up real good and use them as part of the 1920s Ford dealership display I want to build when I have my dream garage.
Tires are all recycled in Alberta, so
Old tires are a big part of my dream garage . . .
Recycled rubber tire crumb injection molded into shingles with a faux cedar shake finish.
The day we started was sunny, but we had to sweep the snow off to finish the next day.
My shop was the test for the first shingles of this design, so I had the inventor
(and company head honcho) installing to make sure his design was ok.
The Allstate is a pretty cool looking tire. Nice design on the sidewall.
I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.
I'm heading to Springfield, OH sometime next week to pick up 3 new tires, 2 for the front and a spare.
Maybe I'll toss the 2 in good condition up on T-bay and see what rolls along.
Thanks,
Oh, and on a side note, I was surprised when I pulled off these 4 tires and found no flaps. All 4 tubes were holding air too. 4 different brand of tubes as well.
1 did have a portion of what looks like a cut down tire mounted around the valve stem, but nothing other than that.
I'm guessing that the new tubes I buy won't be as high quality....I'll keep the old ones around just in case.
I wear tires out to bald with no flaps. My '17 just got some new tires, the old tires had been on there 60 years without any trouble and no flaps.
A flap is about useless unless you have a wire wheel with the spoke nipples coming into contact with the inner tube. Like on a motorcycle or bicycle.
I'm more concerned about the protection they'll offer the tubes while this novice, no-patience new guy installs his first set of tires.
I had to wrestle pretty hard to get the old tires off. Hard to believe I didn't cut the old tubes in the process, but so far they still have a little air in them, so they must be okay.
BTW...there is an affordable set of wire rims from a '32 Model A for sale locally....will these fit my T and what modifications would need to be made?
32,Uh,that aint A I dont think.
Best I can remember there are hub adaptors you need for use of A wheels on a T.
No direct boltup that I have read about or have done.
By the way, were any of the old tubes red? When I got the rear tires on my TT from a fellow that took them off his Peirce Arrow, they had red tubes.
I don't know if they hold any value but I'm holding on to a 21 (Goodyear I think) that is a retread with good tread left. If I could ever find another I would run them on the rear just for the heck of it. I sometimes wonder about was catches my interest??
speaking of used tires, does anybody have some used AA tires? they dont need any tread, they just need to roll, and hold a tube. oh and i just need two.
