The part is the "saddle" that goes over
the front spring on a TT, and the front
of the engine where the crank is...cradles
in the slot with a "shackle" that holds the
engine in place........anyway, what ever it
is called I need one because I know I am
going to break off a bolt when I try to
remove the "U" bolts that hold the front
springs in place. The springs have moved
over about an inch or so is why I am removing it at all. That and the engine is out for a stay in the hospital.

Heat those nuts and you'll likely be able to remove them without breaking anything.

I tried an impact wrench and it
didn't even phase it. I twisted
off one of the bolts on the
shackle covering the crank....so
with that assumption I figured
with any heat it would make it
softer and cause it to break off
more easily. Either way, I want
to try and locate a part "JUST
IN CASE" so I'not left holding
the engine, so to speak. Name of
piece?

u need to heat clamp around the bolts, NOT the bolts. I think he means the top of the front spring clamp, not the bottom nuts

It sounds like you may be looking for the part shown in the cropped photo of John Berch’s TT and is in the circle below:



If that is so, please let us know. And as folks above have shared that part for the 1926-27 Model TT truck is part number 1164B and is called Crank Case Front Bearing and spring clip assembly. It is larger but looks similar to the 3075B and 3075C that was used by Ford on the 1921-1927 cars and 1921 to 1925 TT trucks. [There are some minor differences between the 3074-B and 3074C but they look very similar and are the same basic size and both will hold the spring, frame, and engine correctly] If that is what you are looking for please let us know.

Related suggestions – the nuts are usually less expensive and easier to replace than the part they hold. Usually the penetrating oil, jarring, and/or heat and time will loosen them. But if not – a nut splitter, cold chisel, Drimmel, hack saw blade, or cutting torch can split the nut and allow you to remove the part so it can be cleaned up, threads chased and reused. If you are talking about the smaller bolts that hold the top of the cap over the engine pan and screw into 1164B part – then again – soaking, jarring should work. Worse case, remove the radiator and work slowly with them. They will come out. You might have to drill a small hole through them down into the part and add penetrating oil so it comes up the other direction. Worse case drill them out carefully and don’t hit the threads. If they are that tight – I would recommend do NOT try an easy out. The easy out is much harder to drill out than the original bolt. There are also a couple of other ways it could be tackled – but please confirm which part you are actually wanting help with.

The TT front spring clip/bearing has longer threaded shafts for the TT nine leaf front spring. There is no thread diff between the T and TT parts. The later '26-'27 has the boss and threaded hole to secure the radiator apron with a machine screw.

You can use either on the Improved T, but you will have to add washers to the threaded shaft of the longer TT clip for a T eight leaf spring to make up the spring height difference.

Dan is correct that you could use the 1926-27 TT spring clip assembly on a car chassis but that it is longer than the one used on the car and would need to be shimmed with washers etc. In your case, since you probably want to use it on your 1927 TT – you will want to use the longer 1926-27 TT version along with the TT version of the bracket underneath the springs and the appropriate size nuts.

Dan – I think I have a minor correction – according to the Price List of Parts it shows that the car version of that Crank Case Front Bearing and spring clip assembly does have a different sized threaded part. One way to tell them apart if you don’t have them next to each other is to check the size of the nut that screws onto them. The 1921-1927 car part (and 1921-25 TT part) uses a smaller thread – 9/16 by 18 tpi while the 1926-27 TT part takes the larger 5/8 by 18 tpi. If you have access to a Model T or Model A car rear axle shaft the nut on the TT Crank Case Front Bearing and spring clip is the same one used on the Car size rear axle. If you are sure that you have seen the 1926-27 TT part with the same 9/16 by 18 tpi bolt size as the car – please let me know so we can add that to Bruce’s “Price List of Parts” information.

You are correct, thought they were the same. The engine bearing bolts are coarse thd and are the same, but the longer shafted TT does use the larger axle shaft nut, interchangeable, as noted in the Parts and Price List #1166 TT frt bearing spring clip nut 26-27 (Order 2507) {car axle nut}

Thank you for all your help and support to our hobby. There are sometimes situations where the Ford documentation does not reflect exactly what or when things happened. And in those cases it is good if we can document the exceptions or correction in the data base. Bruce does an excellent job of that in his Price List of Parts. He will list the original time Ford said a part was used and he also has a column for when he has observed the part being used. And when they disagree, Bruce's observations appear to be more accurate. And you are definitely close to the observations and we appreciate all the photos and experience you share.

A lot of people get hung up on adding heat to this part or that part trying to use the heat to expand one part while leaving another part cold so it doesn't expand, etc....Some of that is true, especially with parts that are shrunk or pressed together. However, when rust and corrosion are the culprit, heat will help break down the bonds that have the pieces stuck together. Heat 'em and let 'em cool. It doesn't always work, but it does a lot of times. I've actually had bolts that were stuck tight inside holes be so loose I could remove them with my fingers after heating and allowing to cool.
