I have Dayton pin drive wire wheels, and the pins are worn on the rear hubs. My question is: Are the pins part of the hub casting or are they a separate stud that is threaded into the hub? I am trying to figure out if the existing pins need to be built up, or if I need new pins made that can be screwed into the hubs. Thanks,
Paul
The pins on the Dayton hubs are a seperate part that is rivited into place. It is a shouldered stud that passes througt the hub and then is beat down. They are not threaded. Original pins were .610 to .620 in diameter. They did vary some in diameter. If you bead blast the back of the hub where the pins go through you can see how they were riveted, You can see the pins which are not yet installed in one of the hubs on the right side of the picture
Jack,
Thanks for the information. I talked to a guy at a small local machine shop today about my problem, and it was nice to know how these were originally put together beforehand. This specific shop specializes in one-off oddball stuff, hopefully they come through for me. Thanks again for the quick reply.
