I had never thought a bad engine, in a new T, but I guess it happpened. The video showes the test run of the engine before the body was placed. Were the engines stamped after the test run?

Engine numbers were stamped on completed engine assemblies before they were installed in chassis. A couple of exceptions were made for publicity shots for example the 15 millionth car in 1927.

Here is an earlier thread on 'engine number stamping'

http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/179374/194271.html

The numbers were stamped on finished engines at the factory or branch assembly plant as the engines were completed and readied to be placed in the assembly line to go into the chassis.

Pic is from Ford Shops , 1915.
