This sign was for sale at a local toy show several weeks ago. Asking price was $2000. He had two at that price. I do not have the dealer's name.
Looks to be in nice shape! I passed on a similar sign at a local show for $850 but it was alot worse than the one in your pic. Went by that vendor's booth on my way out and it was sold.
I wonder if the sign in your picture sold for $2K?
That price is no surprise. Original porcelain signs like that, even with a few minor chips, have gone sky high in recent years. Nobody's making any more, at least not legally.
Here is a photo of a very good quality Porcelain Enamel one that I bought from a Vendor here in Australia in the 1980's.
It measures approximately 30 inches X 12 inches. Regards, John
Looks good Bob. Look better on the front of my shed at Texas Q.
Apologies John,Don't know my bobs from my Johns.
I don't think either of those signs are originals. The ones I've seen are a darker blue, and have the name of the manufacturer in the bottom corner.
Those look reproduction - this one although ROUGH has the part numer AND manufacturer on the bottom band - the number is to the far left under the "Sales" side, the manufacturer is to the right in the thin white line. I should get a better picture when I get the chance to do it. Older reproductions are getting hard to tell from the real thing and the people making them were nice enough not to make them perfect... And yes, this one is Canadian made
One thing that can be confusing is not all original signs are marked "Property of Ford Motor Co", "Mullholland Sign Co" etc etc.
I have a few original Ford signs in my collection that aren't marked with anything.
The one I have pictured is definitely a reproduction . I don't know if they are still available . If the one Darel posted is the same dimensions as mine I would suspect it is also. Regards, John
These guys reproduce several old Ford signs. I haven't bought any yet, but I did buy one of those most excellent Ford shirts. Soon I'll get a few signs for my OCD Ford habit.
I have no connection to the company or site, just throwing it out there for those who haven't seen them.

A friend of mine told me yesterday that the one I pictured is a reproduction. Someone reproduced this sign some 30 years ago. He bought two of them. If you look closely at the picture I posted. You can see where the original manufactures name has been removed. There are probably other reproductions around. My friend does have one original, so he knows the differences.
Luke - NONE of the original Ford signs I've seen have "Property of" but every pump sign here and the 15 or so other porcelain signs there have some identifying marker - some are dated, most have a makers name, and others have only nickle plated grommets to judge by. There are many repro's from 10-20-30 years ago that could look good now if it's been weathered for that time. The message I'm trying to make is to be sure of what you have before being burned.
Mark,
I've seen quite a few with the "property of Ford Motor Co" at the bottom of the sign, let me dig around in my stacks of CD's and I'll find some photos to post. All but 2 of my Ford signs are packed away right now as I have no place to put them.
The one "Genuine Ford Parts" oval sign hanging up behind me dates from the late 1930s and it doesn't have the 'Property of Ford Motor Co." at the bottom.
I found some of the pics I was looking for, but don't have time to find the others right now.
I'm not so sure every maker of Ford signs used the "property of Ford Motor Co" stamp, here's some evidence of that.
Ford stamp-
General view of sign
More eye candy-
This is one of mine- it has no "Property of Ford Motor" anywhere on it.
Luke, Thanks for that posting - I have never noticed a Ford sign with that stamp before, but you learn something new every day, or at least now & then.
I'll get close-up pictures of the winged sign and post them - it has the part number in the enameling design and a stamped maker's mark but that's about it. I've only seen a few original winged signs and my walls are too covered to get one of the bigger ones...
Mark,
I've only seen a couple that have the stamp at top, most I've seen are at the bottom of the sign.
Please do post close-up photos of your Winged Pyramid sign! I don't have much knowledge of those and it'll be good to learn more about them.
This sign was found in a ex Ford garage. The 92 year old owner (still working on cars) said Ford made his father buy the sign in the teen's. He also said his father did not turn it on because it used too much electricity.
Darel,
I can't see where the manufacturers' name has been removed in the original photo that started this thread.
Also, if you closely compare the A's and the R's in "Universal Car" pictured in that photo with the photo of the definite reproduction posted by John Page they are different.
On the lower right hand of the sign where the name is on originals, the white line is thinner. The other reproduction was made up using a modern software and does have changes in lettering. The old reproductions used a photo process from an original sign. My friend has two of those like the one I pictured. He bought them when made as reproductions.
The picture of the reproduction sign that I posted on the 19th May is the sign I had on my shed for twenty years.
It has stood the test of time very well. This sign has the nickle grommets that Mark mentions and they protect the sign in the area where you hang it from. It has been stored in my shed for the last ten years. Regards, John
I have tried to localize the lower right corner. On the bottom line there appears to be two distinct "cutoffs" with a narrower line between. but there also appears to be a less distinct similar area on the oblique line. Would the name be in the area of the lower line? Does anyone have a photo of an original showing the maker's mark?
There is an original Canadian Ford sign on ebay now. Note that it is the correct color blue.
What is the opinions on this one? No marks, but "cutoff lines". The lines are slightly irregular in multiple places.
Meant to say NO cutoff lines!
Bump!
This Ford sign brought $700 on Saturday.
Oops, lost the picture.
Here are some fair close-up pictures of the original Ford winged sign. The maker reads "GURNEY CANADA"
I noticed another interesting difference - where the top of the wings meets the pyramid the wings are curved on the repop...
Mark,
Good eye. I would say those curved lines make it a repop.
Guys: You are also comparing a Canadian sign with a US sign. There could be different there. The Parts Stockist sign is Canadian and the color is not the same as US signs. I know because I have two. Thanks, Dan
Also: If you go to the Jersey gas pump web site and look at his Ford sign pages you can look at these signs side by side. It look like the Car sign and the sales and service signs were made different. Thanks, Dan.
Try this for the sign web page

Look at the signs of other pages also, at the bottom. Hope that works. Dan.
