cars seem to appear in my back yard. This basket-case coupe has some very good metal, but the wood is mostly unusable. I think it is a 1919 or 20 based on the earlier cast running board brackets and the fact that it does not have kerosine side lights which would indicate a pre 19. Bail type of door handles also incicate earlier.
The engine is an early 1923 canadian built. Transmission is a 16/27, so none of that is any help. The car seems to have a lot of wood in the doors which I was hoping might tell someone the year. I took some pictures of the basketcase and two pictures of a (supposed to be) 1921 coupe.
Here are two pictures of a supposed to be 1921 door for comparison
What's the engine number?
Jim, as I said in my original post, the engine is canadian with a serial #C3793xx which makes the engine January of 1923.
Willie,
Wouldn't absence of side lights mean it was a post 1919 car with a starter, not a pre-19?
I was thinking '22 or '23. That engine number might confirm it.
Tom, you are correct, I should have said post 19 not pre, my error.
Jim, I think about 1921 the running board supports went to press steel, not cast. That makes me think the engine is not original? I know the transmission was changed, so who knows what else.
I know there were some changes in the body wood especially on the doors, anyone have any opinion on this?????? 1921 and later have more pressed metal at the top of the doors.
Willie: Will you have that car ready for the T Party? BTW how is the healing coming along? Regards, Tim
One door has a loop handle and the other a straight handle. The loop handle may be the original handle. If so, it may be a 1921.
The doors are mismatched. One door also has the strap to raise the window while the other has the rod with the notches. I think the rod style came out in 21.

Darel and David, sorry, I may have caused the confusion. The last two posting are showing a 1921 Coupe door that I posted for comparison to show the metal at the top of the door. The basket case has pull up straps on both doors and bail type door handles on both doors.
Tim, I am still on the walker with instructions to put some weight on the broken leg. Two more weeks till more x-rays will be taken and maybe I can throw this walker away. No the car will not make the Texas T party.
