I have a 26 T roadster with a trunk in the back. Is it possible to install a rumble seat where the trunk is? If so, what would be the approximate cost?
Rumbleseat was not a factory option on a T.I do know someone that made a copy of an era aftermarket rumbleseat on a '27 Coupe. While it would be possible to do on a Roadster, there will be very little room.Cost,no idea.
I have a home built one on my 26’. The hinge system was first tack welded in a light weight tin. Once it was determined everything was right then Iron was added behind the tin for structure. A new deck lid was made from scratch. The old one was beyond repair anyways.
I really do not have any good pictures of the assembly. I might have a chance tonight to take some more pictures.
The only thing I would do over is make the panel that is right above the deck lid tilt up. This would add more knee room. I also removed the original floor and made a new floor without the curve that goes to the seat back. This I believe added a few inches of room for the feet.
See my profile picture. My kid is sitting in the mockup.

Steve, I love that modification. Does DOT require seat belts with that mod? What happens when the driver peels out at an intersection? Is there room for a second seat to give seating for mother-in-law and her best friend? I might try it with my Doctor's Coupe.

Steve,
It is good to have a sense of humor! I wish I thought of that. Thanks for making my day!

Do you want one like this?
Norm
Memories of my '30 Model A roadster inspired me to fabricate this rumble seat in my '65 Mustang.
It has won "Best of Show" at a local car show and has been in the local 4th of July Parade with two kids in the rumble seat waving flags.
It's just for fun and it IS fun.
YOU can do it!
Norman -- Do you have any schematics/plans for this? Looks like what I want. How much leg/feet room does it have?
They had an accessory "Bird's Nest" for the 2-seat Thunderbirds too.
I'm guessing people sitting back here produced a noticeable change in handling.
Steve, with your set up, I bet it would be good to be sure there was a person in the regular seat with a long ponytail.
Here are the pics of my setup. Not quite done.
Closed lid
Open lid
Taking the seat back off is alittle difficult. All that is needed is to remove the handle and then remove two screws.
Seat Bottom Frame made from 2x4s
Deck lid hindge
I reached the camera back behind the hindge support assembly to kinda show how it is made. There is one major piece of 1/8" steel that you cannot see. It is basiclly behine the entire piece of outer skin tin that was used in the mockup.
