Compare that sphynx with a modern photo of it. A lot of non original work has been done over the years.
Looks like they have a bottle of hooch on the running board. Nice looking car. All those guys must have gone to the same party store for the mustaches too.
Car looks so clean, as if this is a set up shot.
No tire tracks from front or rear ? What is the object behind rear tire in the sand ? Car has large shadow and sphinx has small shadow for its size. Looks all fake to me.
They rented the car at the Hertz counter in the Mena House hotel not far away and are waiting till the Sound and Light Show and the opera Aida starts at dusk.

Erich-
I know that you know that "bottle of hooch" is the carbide generator for the headlights.
Which one is Dr Livingstone?
I spent a month in Egypt one week. Would be a nice place if it weren't for all the Egyptians.
Yes, I know it is the carbide gen. It just looks funny the way the reflection is, giving the illusion of a large bottle. Must be a mirage.
I wonder if the bulb horn made the camels move aut of the way? Probably not.
Keith, missed you at the last few tours.
Steve, musta been a loooong week.
I wish the photo was clearer. Appears to have come from a Ford Times. The windshield supports appear to be 1913 but the car must be a '14, because I can't see any door handles. Also, the horn bulb seems too far forward, and the windshield appears to be double exposed?
If the windshield appears double exposed, that would mean some form of trick photography was employed. Would it not?
That's not a carbide generator... in Egypt it's a Hooka for making lighting gas! If you look closely you can see a slight line in the sand above and behind the Ford. Looks like a darkroom trick to me!
Will:
Could be a double sided wiper, one for the outside & the inner wiper for the fog ????????
Pretty sure it's a fake backdrop. The Sphynx is not close to the Pyramids. The front paws of the Sphynx aren,t exposed and it's WAY too small. looks like their about 6 to 8 feet away from it. The lack of tire marks are a real killer.
Steve
I lived in Egypt for two years and found that, with the possible exception of the Omani's, the Egyptian people are the most friendly and pleasant to deal with of all the many Arab countries I have traveled in.

The juxtaposition of the Sphynx and the Pyramids of Giza shown in this photo is exactly correct.

I'm saying it's fake, but time has passed a lot. There is a major road that runs between the sphinx and the pyramids. You can almost recreate the scene on Google Earth, but where their car is would be some major excavations. It wasn't completely
excavated until between 1925 and 1936.
Here's two pictures. The first is from 1858, and the second sometime between 1867 and 1899.
The pyramid you see in the first picture I posted is the pyramid in the picture at the beginning of the thread.
