Hi All,
I was looking at the ne engine photo in Doyle's post about his Dad's car.
I was wondering what the correct paint scheme is for at 16 touring?
Also, do you have paint/powder coating recomendations for these parts?
Thanks,
Michael
From the encyclopedia:
"Engines, engine pans, and splash shields (at the side of the engine) may or may not have been painted. Again, the consensus is that most engines were not painted but that some were painted in a very thin black during the Model T era. Late 1926 and 1927 engines were painted Moleskin, at least at the main factory. Even here, though, there were exceptions. Engine pans follow the same pattern. The dust shields were probably painted body color in the early years, and black through 1927. Floor boards were generally not painted but may have been given a coat of linseed oil or similar. Indeed, there are no hard and fast rules on what was and what was not painted on any Model T. There were too many variations."
With that semi-permission to improvise, I go with the most likely color for pre-26 engines, if they were painted at all, and use black. A glossy finish is OK for the body, but for engine and chassis I use Rustoleum satin black. I think it looks quite nice.
Thanks Steve.....any thoughts about the intake/exhaust manifolds? What about powder coating parts vs painting. I have both available.
Do not powder coat the engine pan, it will melt the solder that seals the front dam that holds the crankshaft seal. Then it's hell trying to patch in the car.
Sincerely
Jim Weir
I don't know what is 'right' but I do know what I like and I like my engine green with black accessories.
(child optional at substantial extra cost).
