I love these pictures - full of so much detail. I spy a T delivery van and a roadster and a tourer - but Henry does not dominate this road scene yet:

As near as I can tell, every man in that picture is wearing a hat....

Looks like Fort St. and Woodward Ave. My Google Earth is too slow. Maybe someone can post a current view.

...and a suit and tie and polished dress shoes. Used to be, going out into public was enough for folks to get dressed up and look their best. Now folks don't even get dressed up for church or funerals. Won't be long before Kiwi shoe polish goes the way of the buggy whip. Jim Patrick

Times are different now. A few years ago my wife and I went to Europe. I thought we might need to dress for dinner or other occasions, The suit and tie stayed in the bag, the entire trip. They are just as casual there as here. Now, if we had been invited to visit royalty, it might have been different! My suit is in a clothing bag in the closet, just in case the family wants an open casket someday.

The Michigan Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument is in Campus Maritus Park at 800 Woodward Ave.

The picture above posted by Darel is actually facing the wrong direction from the Shorpy photo. The statue would be behind the camera in Darel's view.

A similar to original view point would require being up in a building.
With Street View you are limited to road level. The statue is behind the trees on the right.

Here is another recent view (July 12, 2009) taken while the Piquette Ts were recreating the 1909 Glidden Tour in Detroit.
