Hey guys - Someone in New Zeland needs to send me some money (it"s real not a hoax) and we are trying to figure out the best way.
They suggested Western Union but that might be expensive.
I'm sure you guys know what's best!
If both of you have Paypal accounts, it's a fairly cheap and immediate option.
And if you both are not pay pal membersa pay pal member can still send the money -- it just turns into a check and arrives in the mail sent from the country you are in using the correct type of money. Or at least that is how it worked three or so years ago. It saves money if you both have a paypal account as the check and mail adds to the cost.
And if both of you are not in a hurry -- you may even be able to send you a regular check from Australia, you can deposit it in your bank -- hold is 21 days or so and then the money will be avialable for use. Ask your bank - they will be able to answer that question for you easily. And yes there will be some sort of currency exchange fee added to the transaction.
Respectfully submitted,

There is nothing like an old fashioned bank draft! This facility still exists and it is inexpensive, efficient and, to the best of my knowledge, still an overnight service.

Please tell me who in New Zealand wants to send you money - I might call them up and see if they want to send some to me too
I would use Paypal.
I would have him open a savings account in my name in NZ, then arrange a trip to withdraw it in person. You won't find a nicer place for that special vacation, and their banks probably pay more interest than you would get here.

Adrian and rdr - I've made the arrangements you sugested.
All I need is your checking account number and password so we can finalize the transaction.
As for the other sugestions - I'll persue the Paypal approach and use the bank draft as a second method.
