So I took my speedster for a short little drive last night to find out all the fun starts now. I was able to back it down my drive only to find out that it had a little shutter. I began to wash it off a little and my driving coach showed , so we cranked her over and got going only to have it shutter in drive low and high. We got going just fast enough to notice a front end shimmy. The fun continues to find out we can't engage the warford and now she starts to stall and backfire throught the carb. So we backed her back in the garage only to begin working again, project's finished last night adjusted the bands , tryed to adjust the carb, installed new steering stabalizer, removed warford shifter and tryed to move shift forks " didn't succed"!! So brought them to work to clean up only to find a crack starting to from on one of the forks. So all and all it was a fun not as smooth as I would have like , but it is in life that's worth anything hoping to try again tomorrow , will keep you posted .
Thank you Stephen !!!
Pictures?
What would you like to see?? I'll go home and post them.
Steve,
Be safe, fix what makes the front end shimmy first. Something is worn out or it wouldn't shimmy. After that, if you still want to use a stabilizer, go ahead.
Ditto what Jerry said. If all is well in front end parts, then no shimmy.
I did one and one third 200 mile Endurance Runs shaking bugs out of my boat-tail. It seems to be running and driving pretty well now.
Have fun! And drive carefully, W2
Our laptop went down so I had to bust out our old desktop. Sorry for the delay.
Here are some pictures. They are a little out of order. I am still having head trouble on the T. This is what I have found so far.
Here is a picture of the first time we test drove it, having to adjust the bands (looks like I'll have to put new ones in soon) and a small crack I found in the Warford transmission fork.
Steve
So, after making several adjustments, I was able to finlly get the T to run without incident for an extended period of time yesterday.
My driving coach, Jack, and I are supposed to give the test drive another try today. If all goes well, I'll get to take her for my first drive ever!
Will keep you posted. Many thanks for all your help!
Stephen
Steve, If that is indeed a crack in the shifting fork, it looks close to the point of breaking off. That could be nasty. You may want to get that repaired or replaced before any more driving. I had an old Warford a few years back that a bearing start to fall apart. One ball went through the gears and blew the bottom off the case.
Nice looking car!
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
Steve: I may have that part for your Warford. I have a box of Warford parts. Email me a good picture and I will see what I have. Dan.
Wayne - It seems to be just a beginning hairline crack at this time. At this time, I am only plan on driving it in direct drive (which is the gear I have it in presently) because I am just practicing to be able to drive it to and from the church on our wedding day (approximately 15-20 miles round trip). After that, we'll go from there and I will definitely be wanting to replace that fork.
However, if I luck out and Dan happens to the correct fork, I may be in business to get it replaced sooner than later. PS I sent you a message, Dan.
Stephen
Steve, that fork can be welded very easily. Dave
