I just put new bands in my 1925 T pickup. I removed the hogshead and used forcing screws against the rear axel and running board bracket to give me clearande to lift the hogs head. All went well (the hogs head seems a lot heavier now that I'm 76 than it did at 35) I released the forcing screws and began to connect the driveshaft ie the ball cap. It seems to not go far enough forward (about 3/16 inch gap. I thought about starting the 4 screws and "drawing" it up but woe is me--only 3 of the bolts line up properly. I used an alignment punch to try to get them to go--so far no luck. I have performed this operation before and have never had a problem. I have now turned a 30 minute task into a 3 hour #$%^&&%$^. Time now for a beer--then I'll get after it again. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks. Dewey`
Are you sure the universal joint is all the way into the transmission square hole? If it is, try blocking the back of the back wheels and then push the car backward. You might need some help doing this. The idea is to move the car backward without moving the rear axle.
If the U joint is properly aligned, it should go right in. The problem with using the bolts to force it in is that you could strip the two built in nuts in the back of the crankcase. That would be bad news.
