My starter armature shaft has .035 runout at the drive end .It has only .002-3 back at the end of the snout. Is this OK or should I straighten it.

I took the armature out and everything looks good,so I will true up the shaft and put it back together with a new bendix. Ready for my new rebuilt engine.

It is pretty easy to straighten Model T starter armatures unless it has a S bend in it. If one bend they are usually always bent in the same place where they neck down to the size for the Bendix drive shaft.
A few minutes with some V blocks and a dial indicator will tell you where to push with a press. To the horror of some a few taps with a brass hammer will also work.

Here is a marked photo showing where the bend usually occurs.

In some cases the mounting bracket can also be bent and can be re-bushed as shown in this photo.
