about two weeks ago I posted two ads on this web site's classified advertising section. I received this e-mail letter today and it is both sad and out of order:

This note was from a Mike Seidlak as printed below:

You scamming son of a bitch you e mailed me 80 times.how can you be so cruel...you are scum.I'm 12 and just got out of a burn center you rotten bastard.I am reporting you till you are found..I have nothing to do but lay in this bed,,so I have time

The IC3 accepts online Internet crime complaints from either the actual victim or from a third party to the complainant. We can best process your complaint if we receive accurate and complete information from you. Therefore, we request that you provide the following information when filing a complaint:
Your name
Your mailing address
Your telephone number
The name, address, telephone number, and Web address, if available, of the individual or organization you believe defrauded you.
Specific details on how, why, and when you believe you were defrauded.
Any other relevant information you believe is necessary to support your complaint.
File a Complaint >> larrymic

Note the name >> Larrymic after his rude notice to me. I looked that up on his e-mail and the complete name that sent the message to him from the Fiji Islands is LARRY MICHEAL yet young Mike Seidlak sent his angry message to my e-mail address. I posted my e-mail address with the added no-spam as we are supposed to do in my advertisement and have not received any messasges from Fiji, nor have I sold any parts. It should be noted that there were a whole lot of e-mail addresses tagged on to is message so there may be a bunch of poor saps in the same boat all going to Fiji. Poor Mike Seidlak believes that I am Larry Michael but with my e-mail address for Frank Harris. It is a shame we must deal with kind of a mess when all we are trying to do is have fun and get things back on the road.

Just what in the world is going on ? I am being reported as a nasty spammer just because I am attempting to buy and sell on this web site.

Frank Harris, Long beach, CA, not Fiji Islands nor Larry Michael from who know where ?

I am so angry and confused that I can't find the smiling pig to make folks angry 'specially Aaron Griffey, or my picture of #22.

You are being effed with. The kid in the original email most likely doesn't exist.

It's spam. It may or may not be a result of your posting an ad on the MTFCA classifieds.

After trying to lay a guilt trip on you, notice that the email is asking you to provide personal information. It's called phishing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishing

So far, you have taken the bait but, because you have not responded with the requested personal information, you have not been reeled in.

Ignore it. Remember, you are under no obligation to even open an email.

Frank

I have made a living for the last 27 years doing computor repair and especially virus removal:

My advice:

1. Ignore the idiot, nothing will come of it.
2. NEVER reply to emails of this sort
3. If he continues to bother you set your email program to delet all emails from his address or domain
4. It does happen occasionally the "bots" or viruses can get on your machine. On the chance that this happened and your machine (not you personally) really did send him spam, download and run a good virus scanner. I suggest malwarebytes (google it).
5 Even if your machine did have a bot and did send the spam, he didn't have to be an ass about it !
6. After doing #4 above, forget the whole thing and go do something on your T !!!

Cheers
schuh

Frank, did you look close at the e-mail address? If it was from yahoo.com he could be anywhere in the world. If you opened his e-mail and clicked on any link, you probably downloaded a program that will send spam from your e-mail address to everyone in your address book and probably while your computer is turned off.

If you still have the email open the header and find the originating ip.
Plug the ip into google and see where it goes.
THEN delete the offending email....... :-)

I got one of those spams ostensibly from a friend stuck in London and needing $2850 asap.

I called him at home in Bonsall instead, and I was the first of many to call. They emptied his address book and forwarded his incoming emails to them, so he couldn't warn anybody, and he couldn't get any warnings.

To protect myself, I made a copy of my address book and changed its name and stored it where I could find it and restore it.

Frank,

This morning I also received 80 spam email messages from Larry Micheal for an "Item Needed". These messages were addressed to hundreds of people. Shortly thereafter I received the same email as you did from seemingly poor Mike Seidlak. I imagine these are sent by the same person. The first 80 messages were meant to piss you off. The 2nd one from Mike Seidlak was also sent to the same hundreds of people who were now sympathetic to his plight and perhaps more willing to file a "claim", which by the way requests the same information as the initial spam. It's just a different twist on the same old game. By the way, I also just posted some thing on the classified section a week ago.

Greg

Frank,
My eldest son also has made a living for years doing computer repair, internet consulting etc. That Malwarebytes Bud posted above is what he used a few weeks ago when my wife's yahoo account got hacked and sent emails. He keeps up with what is the current best to clean up problems and says that is the one for now.
In my wife's case, our computer was not the problem, her yahoo account was. She had to change all her password info. Her address book sent Canadian medications spam to much of our family.
As my son says, "no worries". Try to check your computer, either by download or your favorite computer repair (just to be sure your computer is okay). Then get out there and work on the "speedster bus", or take good old 22 out for a run. And if you need more personalized phone help. You could let me know. I can't help you. But I may be able to get you in touch with someone who can. (By the way, you should come back up to the SCVMTFC Endurance Run. My son has been my riding mechanic.)
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2

Get over it Frank --

We all know that you have plenty of time to sit at your computer and send a 12 YO french fried kid 80 messages. :-)

Just send him Ralph's information and everyone will be happy! Don't forget to include his checking account number! :-)

While your at it you can send me $10,000.00 because my T needs a new set of shoes and I'm stuck in Paris KY.

Do not respond! I have not heard of this one before. But it sounds like a scam. He wants you to reply, and give him to much info.

Its very simple. You are being spammed by a spammer, who wants you to believe that you have been spamming him, while spamming the spam from the spammer in charge of the spam. The spam therefore spams the spammer, resulting in further spam originating from the spamee. In the end, the spammee becomes spammer, which results in spam being spammerized and spammed for naught.

I bet all who are on this guys mailing list have placed their real Email Address in MTFC Classifieds.
Web Robots constantly scour the Internet for sites like this one with free Addresses.
Please be careful.

If you use Outrook Express, and probably others, you can right click on an incoming, hit properties, and read it without opening.

I believe that spammers should get a minute in jail for every spam sent out, no hope for parole.
