Model T Ford Forum: Forum 2011: Mounting Tool Box

I have been able to buy several tools and parts for our 26 T. There are two tool boxes that I would like to mount one on the running board. Both of these boxes are wide and will not allow the lid to open very far before they hit the splash shields. Is there some way to move the box out of the running board by some to allow the lid of the box to open fully? Don't want it to look bad but there is no convenient way to lock up tools on a touring car other than a tool box. Thanks for any suggestions.
Nick

I've seen toolbxes mounted to the running board with low profile drawer side tracks, trimmed to fit the width of the box. The toolbox slides out to give more room to open.

Ed,
What a great idea. I'll look for one that fits both running board and tool box. Thanks.

Be sure to get the type with catches and a release so the box doesn't slide out while driving.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2

That sure does seem like a good idea, and I'm sure that in the right climate (like a lot of the Southwest) there'd be no problem, however, as most drawer slides are intended for indoor use, I'm not sure how "the elements" would effect them in a year or two. I suppose it also depends on the particular Model "T",....(show car, daily driver, etc) Perhaps there is hardware designed for pickup truck utility boxes that would better withstand the effects of rain, dust, mud, etc,.....just a thought,......harold

Just mount it with the hinges on the outside. Then an open box has a tool tray right on it.
