I've been searching one of these little 13-inch battery/tool boxes out for quite a while now, so forgive me if I crow a little about it.
This is what it looked like when I "won" it on e-bay...
And after sandblasting, painting and mounting...
To protect the paint on the inside from my tools, I lined it with cardboard. I stuck a little piece of rubber mat between the box and the running board to keep it from getting scratched when the car flexes over bumps. The gray disk is one of those little battery-powered, magnetic-mount lights you can pick up at Pep boys for $2
A key to the lock was provided by a very generous member of this forum (and thank you again, my friend).
You too can get one of these hard-to-find little battery boxes because as it happens, there's one on e-bay right now for not a whole lot of money (and no, I'm not the seller).

Lookin' good Bob.
I have a toolbox that has a curved bottom to fit the running board and fender where the fender curves up. I haven't seen them anywhere else.
Great looking accessory!
Bob, if you don't mind, please send me a private note advising where I might find brass hardware like that on your battery box. I've been trying for awhile to get some for a running board tool box.
Thanks
Ross
Daug Money:
I have had a couple of tool boxes that were curved on the bottom to fit partially on the front fender. They had a rubber mat on top so you could step on them and then step over the false drivers door so you would not have to make the wife get out so you could get in. I think my oldest boy has one now.
Bob Coiro:
All of the small boxes are not all battery boxes. I have a couple now that are not battery boxes. Battery Boxes have a hole for cables in the back side near the bottom.
I have a battery box that has two holes near the top for the cables. They appear to be original.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
